CANNED MILK FROSTING



Canned Milk Frosting image

This is a very creamy, delicious frosting that works great on chocolate cake. Wacky Cake is what we use. Yummy!

Yield 1 9x13 cake or two layer cake

Number Of Ingredients 5

1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup margarine
2/3 cup sugar
1 (11 ounce) can evaporated milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Cream together 1/2 cup sugar and margarine.
  • Add remaining ingredients and beat till smooth and creamy.
  • Note: I have found this work best if milk and margarine are ice cold.

I didn't have any confectioners' sugar, but I needed to make frosting. Who knew you could use sweetened condensed milk? I must confess, I varied this recipe a little and added 1/2 cup or so of strawberries and 16 ounces of cream cheese (2 blocks). I also didn't have shortening and made this with all butter. I will post the recipe the way I found it at cooks.com. Serving size is estimated.

1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
5 teaspoons vanilla

Steps:

  • Beat shortening and butter for approximately 5 minutes.
  • Add condensed milk and beat another 5 minutes.
  • Add vanilla and beat again until desired thickness.

This works well with most types of cupcakes , use this to top chocolate cupcakes if your not a chocolate lover. I use vanilla bean paste for this recipie as it gives a better flavour and you have lovely black speckles in the frosting at the end . Double this recipie for a 20cm cake

Steps:

  • Beat the icing sugar and butter together in free standing electric mixer with a paddle attachment (or use a hand held electric whisk) on medium-slow speed until the mixture comes together and is well mixed.
  • Turn the mixer down to speed.Combine the milk egg and vanilla bean paste/vanilla extract in a seperate bowl ,then add a couple of teaspoons at a time .
  • Once all the milk has been incorperated, turn the mixer up to high speed.Continue beating until the frosting is light and fluffy , at least 5 minutes .The longer the frosting is beaten , the fluffier and lighter it becomes.

1/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Pinch of kosher salt
2 sticks unsalted butter, room temperature
1 cup sugar

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, whisk together flour and milk until smooth. Cook over medium-high heat, whisking constantly, until mixture becomes thick and resembles pudding, 3 to 4 minutes. Transfer to a heat-proof bowl; stir in vanilla and salt. Press plastic wrap against surface; let cool completely.
  • Beat butter with sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl as needed, about 2 minutes. Add milk mixture and continue beating until frosting is light and fluffy and resembles whipped cream, about 2 minutes more. Use immediately.
