CAMPING DUMP CAKE I
This is an old recipe used at Church Camps, Scouts and by Families who camp a lot. It is sure to bring back lots of fun memories from camping! We like to sit around the campfire telling stories and singing songs while waiting for this to cook. You can get creative by changing the cake mix flavors, the fruits, and the pop...

Steps:
- 1. Put cake mix into a bowl. Add can of pop. Stir (don't beat), until batter is formed (don't over stir... you want the bubbles from the pop to help the cake rise!)
- 2. Line a Dutch oven with a disposable aluminum foil round cake pan or just line the Dutch oven with foil. Butter the pan or foil.
- 3. Dump the canned pie filling over the bottom of the Dutch oven.
- 4. Pour the batter over the fruit. Put lid on Dutch oven.
- 5. Set the Dutch oven on 8 to 10 coals. Put 10 to 15 coals on the lid. Let cook 45 to 55 minutes. Brush the coals and coal dust off the lid before opening.
- 6. *** For a richer dessert, you can add 1 stick of butter or margarine cut in small pieces and scattered over the top of the batter. *** Let cool a little before serving. *** If you have ice cream or whipped cream available, put a scoop on the top or the side. *** You can use one flavor of fruit or two kinds of fruit...it is great either way!

I would use a 10-12 inch dutch oven and use your judgement with the briquets Also, use any pie filling and any cake mix--I bet blueberry would be delicious also. You may also line the...

- Campfire Banana Boats 9 Ways. I’m coming in strong with this one! Warm, sweet bananas are cooked right in their peels with everything from chocolate chips to pralines melted inside!
- Campfire Cones. I never would’ve thought that you can stuff a waffle cone with treats and bake it over a fire, but here we are. This simple little dessert is just that: a waffle cone filled to the brim with chocolate, nuts – anything your heart desires.
- Caramelized Peaches in Foil. This recipe can be made just as well with canned peaches as with fresh. The only benefit to using fresh is that you can cut them in half and add the brown sugar mix to the middle, keeping it from spilling all over.
- Dutch Oven Apple Pie. Ok, hear me out: I know most people don’t travel with a Dutch oven in their packs! But some hardcore campers are gone for days, and I know they have some kind of oven situation.
- Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler. This recipe has a few steps, but it’s a super simple way to make up a warm and filling dessert by the fire. I love that you just throw the fruit over the batter so that all the juices soak into the cobbler.
- Campfire Apple Crisp Foil Packets. Much like the cake mix cobbler, this recipe just needs to be layered up and baked. Ok, you’ll have to mix a few things together, but that’s it!
- Campfire Dutch Oven Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Baking from scratch isn’t always possible when camping, or the easiest on a tree stump! Using a cake mix will make this go so much faster, and it cuts down on ingredients you’ll have to bring along.
- Pound Cake and Berry Campfire Skillet Dessert. I can’t recommend this enough as a quick and easy after dinner campfire dessert. I think most campers bring along some kind of skillet, right?
- Campfire S’mores. Let’s be honest; there’s no wrong way to make a s’more. So long as you have the key ingredients – chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers – you’re pretty much guaranteed a mouthfeel of yumminess.
- S’mores Nacho. This is a great recipe to make when you’re feeding a crowd! Bring a few disposable foil roasting dishes and load them up with chocolate, marshmallow, and cracker.
15 DUMP CAKE RECIPES - THE SPRUCE EATS
From thespruceeats.com
- Pear Dump Cake. A quintessential dump cake, this recipe calls for canned pears and yellow cake mix, although the little bit of ground ginger or nutmeg does add an extra level of flavor.
- Cherry Dump Cake. Canned cherry pie filling, angel food cake mix, almond extract, and sliced almonds make up this pretty-in-pink dump cake. The almond flavor pairs perfectly with the cherries and angel food cake, but if you only have vanilla extract, that will work just fine.
- Easy Peach Cobbler. True to the dump cake technique, this cobbler calls for the fruit to be covered with dry cake mix and melted butter. However, the fruit gets a bit of dressing up in this recipe.
- Pumpkin Dump Cake. The holidays can be busy, so a dump cake is ideal when you are pressed for time but want to serve a familiarly flavored dessert. Unlike traditional dump cakes, this recipe does require combining ingredients in a mixing bowl first, including eggs, pumpkin, evaporated milk, sugar, and spices like nutmeg, ginger, and ground cloves.
- Apple Dump Cake. Tasting like an apple pie but assembled like a cobbler, this apple dump cake may become a new fall favorite. Fresh apples are combined with nuts, sugar, and spices, covered with apple cider, and sprinkled with yellow cake mix and cinnamon.
- Pineapple Cherry Dump Cake. We all know that pineapple and cherry are a perfect match (think of holiday hams and upside-down cakes), so it just makes sense to combine the two fruits in a dump cake.
- Easy Blueberry Cobbler. Fresh blueberries cooked along with sugar, flour, and lemon juice are the base for this easy blueberry cobbler. Once boiled, the mixture is poured into the prepared pan and topped with yellow or white cake mix, pecan pieces, and melted butter.
- Strawberry-Rhubarb Dump Cake. When rhubarb is in season, this dump cake recipe is a fun way to use the pink-hued produce. The strawberry flavor comes from the gelatin, which is sprinkled over the fruit along with sugar and white cake mix.
- Peach Dump Cake. Requiring mixing rather than dumping, and a few more ingredients than a typical dump cake, this peach cake is still super simple to make.
- Vegan Pineapple Upside-Down Dump Cake. Featuring a vegan-friendly cake mix, such as Duncan Hines, and vegan margarine, this dump cake is dairy free and delicious.
