This recipe was rec'd from Anne O'Rielly many years ago when I was selling my baking. Its a very nice cookie.

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups cake flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1 1/4 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons boiling water
2 cups rolled oats (five or twenty minute)

Steps:

  • Measure the flour and salt and set aside.
  • Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water.
  • Cream the butter, shortening, blend in the sugar well.
  • Add the dissolved soda, then vanilla.
  • Add in the dry ingredients, and combine until well blended.
  • Shape into small balls 2 inches apart set onto parchment lined cookie sheet. Press down with a floured fork.
  • Bake in preheated oven 350 degrees, for 10 to 14 minutes, until golden.

8 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup margarine
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup whole milk
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 1/3 cups sifted cake flour
2 tablespoons soft butter
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground fresh nutmeg

Steps:

  • Mix first nine ingredients, add two cups of the flour.
  • Batter will be thick.
  • Spread batter in greased oblong cake pan.
  • Mix the remaining ingredients, butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and remaining flour, into a small pot, over low heat until blended.
  • Crumble this over the batter.
  • Bake 350 degrees F.
  • for 35 minutes, or until golden and tester comes away clean.
