Time 1h30m

Yield 4 to 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

One 18-ounce box brownie mix
6 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
1 egg white
1/2 cup chocolate chunks
1/2 cup pretzel chocolate candies, such as pretzel M&M's, very coarsely crushed
1 cup mini pretzel twists
1 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl beat together the brownie mix with the melted butter, egg white and 1/3 cup water until well combined. Use a rubber spatula to fold in the chocolate chunks and crushed candies.
  • Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet and use an offset spatula to spread into an even 1/4-inch-thick layer. Scatter over the pretzel twists and gently press into the top. Sprinkle with the sea salt.
  • Bake until crisp looking and mostly dry, 30 to 40 minutes. Then turn off the oven and leave the brittle inside until completely cool and dry. Break apart and serve.

BROWNIE BRITTLE RECIPE - FROM A BOX MIX

Brownie Brittle Recipe - from a box mix image

My sister is forever making snacks and cookies and she came up with this recipe. I loved the brownie taste and just had to have the recipe.

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 pkg (18 oz) brownie mix
1/3 c vegetable oil
1/3 c water
1 large egg

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  • 2. Place all of the ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Mix all together until just combined.
  • 3. Pour mixture onto parchment-line large baking sheet and spread as thin as you can get it - I used as wooden spoon to mix all and spread mix into pan.
  • 4. As my brittle was still too soft the day I made it, I preheated the oven to the 325 degrees, turned the oven off and put my pan of brownies back in for a few minutes to crisp up the too-soft brownie pieces.
  • 5. Best to cut into pieces while the brittle is still warm. I used a pizza cutter. when completely cool, break into those pieces.

  • In separate bowl whip the egg, egg white, both sugars and vanilla with a whisk. You can use a fork but the whisk goes faster.
  • Add dry ingredients to the wet and mix with a fork until incorporated. It will resemble dry pancake mix. Don’t use the whisk here or the mix will get all gunked up in the whisk.

HOW TO MAKE BOX BROWNIES BETTER - EASY BROWNIE MIX HACKS

From savoryexperiments.com
Estimated Reading Time 6 mins
  • Up the Egg Yolk. By simply mixing in one additional egg yolk to the eggs that are already called for in the recipe, you are adding both moisture and fat to the batter.
  • Who Needs Water? Does your batter need some liquid? Yes, of course, it does. Does the said liquid need to be void of any flavor? Sure doesn’t. Many box recipes call for water, but I like to use things that are a bit more exciting.
  • Skip the Oil. Most boxes call for oil to be added to the batter. While some people love that texture, I choose to skip it and instead add in the same amount of unsalted, melted butter.
  • Bring on the Chips! Chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, caramel chips, cocoa nibs- anything with a little crunch and flavor will be good. Add anywhere from 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup to the batter.
  • Sift! For the love of all that is good and holy, sift the dry ingredients. All too often, these boxes are sitting around for a while at the store or on your shelf and home and they get lumps.
  • Mix It Up. Another common mistake is not mixing the batter long enough once the wet and the dry ingredients are all together. Be sure you have a smooth batter with no lumps.
  • Add More Powder. Just a tablespoon of espresso powder or 1/4 cup of more cocoa powder will add an intense fudgy flavor to your brownies. Espresso powder doesn’t come across as coffee-like either.
  • Get to Brushin’ With certain brownies and in certain cultures cakes are brushed with simple syrup, flavored syrups or even liqueur or rum to give them an extra tender bite and a bit of flavor.
  • Frost Them. Brownies typically aren’t frosted but one of my favorite things are gooey brownies with cream cheese frosting. You can frost brownies with no shame using homemade frosting or a store bought tub.
  • Fold in More. Chips aren’t the only thing you can fold into your brownie batter. Candy pieces, cookies, mini marshmallows, caramel pieces, nuts or even fried fruits are all great ideas.
