Tasty little drop cookies made with buttermilk and brown sugar. A rewarding treat.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup shortening
2 cups packed brown sugar
2 eggs
½ cup buttermilk
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time then stir in the buttermilk. Combine the flour, baking soda and salt; stir into the buttermilk mixture until well blended. Cover dough and chill for at least one hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, until almost no imprint remains when touched with your finger. Remove from cookie sheets immediately to cool on wire racks.

These are great EASY cookies. My grandmother made them for years.

Number Of Ingredients 8

⅔ cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
1 ½ tablespoons hot water
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Cream together shortening and brown sugar. Add eggs and mix well.
  • Dissolve baking soda in hot water. Stir into mixture. Add flour, salt and cinnamon. Mix well.
  • Drop by spoonful onto cookie sheet. Bake 10 - 12 minutes.

In recipes like this, that use a lot of vanilla extract, I find it makes a big difference if you use pure vanilla instead of imitation. I look for sales & stock up. That & real butter! Ok, everything else too. :)

1 c butter, softened
1 c packed brown sugar
1 c white sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsp vanilla(or almond)extract
3 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
optional: chips, dried fruit, nuts

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a cookie sheet. Cream together the butter or margarine, white sugar, brown sugar, and eggs. Add vanilla and stir. Add the flour, salt, baking soda, and baking powder and mix well. Drop by spoonfuls onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for about 12 minutes or until lightly browned.
