BUTTERY PARMESAN HERB BREADSTICKS

Buttery Parmesan Herb Breadsticks image

These Buttery Parmesan + Herb Breadsticks are a breeze to whip up! Warm, soft breadsticks brushed with a garlic + herb butter sauce, and sprinkled with parmesan? Yes please! Serve them as an appetizer, or as a side dish with pizza, pasta, or any meal you'd like a little side of carby, buttery love with.

Categories     Appetizer     Bread

Number Of Ingredients 5

24 Rhodes Thaw, Rise, & Bake Dinner Rolls (thawed according to package directions)
1 stick salted butter, melted
1 and 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp garlic powder
parmesan, for serving

Steps:

  • Prep: Thaw rolls according to package drections. Two rolls makes one breadstick. You can increase/decrease the number of rolls you thaw depending on how many breadsticks you want to make. I let my bread thaw in the fridge and then I let it sit at room temp for 1-2 hours before using it. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
  • Make the Breadsticks: Smush two rolls together, and then roll out into a rope about 9-10 inches long. Slice this down the middle, leaving a tiny piece attached at the top. Cross one piece over the other all the way down the rope, and pinch the ends together. Repeat this with remaining dough. Place on prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between each to avoid them sticking together in the oven.
  • Bake: Bake for 4 minutes to start. While they're in the oven, melt the butter and stir in the Italian seasoning and garlic powder. After the 4 minutes is up, remove the pans from the oven, brush the breadsticks with this mixture and then return the pans to the oven to bake for 12 more minutes. Breadsticks will be lightly golden when done.
  • Serve + Store: Enjoy immediately! Brush with leftover butter + seasoning mix, and sprinkle with parmesan. These are best fresh, but can be stored in an airtight container at room temp for an extra day or two.

PARMESAN GARLIC BUTTER

Parmesan Garlic Butter image

This stuff is fabulous! I love to use this to spread on top of warm breadsticks or rolls right out of the oven. Before when I made breadsticks, I could never get a strong enough flavor to come through in my breadsticks. Just slather this on top of or inside of homemade breadsticks or rolls. It's so much better than just sprinkling on Parmesan and garlic powder. You can also add Italian seasoning if you like. If you don't have minced garlic, you can substitute 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. garlic powder. However, I prefer minced with an additional dash of garlic powder. Mmmmmm... I have added to mashed potatoes or to butter up noodles. Make a bunch and store it in the fridge- it'll become a regular staple!

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Add butter to a rimmed baking sheet and place in oven to melt, being careful not to burn butter. Remove when melted.
  • In the bowl of your standard mixer, combine yeast, water & sugar. Set aside and let sit 5-10 minutes or until yeast is foamy and dissolved. If it doesn't get foamy, then start again. (Either your water was too cold/too hot or your yeast is too old).
  • Gradually add salt and flour to the yeast, mixing on LOW with your hook attachment for 1 minute. Once combined, continue to mix on medium-low speed for approximately 5-7 minutes. If your dough is too wet, add up to 1/4 cup more flour one tablespoon at a time. After kneading, your dough should be smooth and elastic and slowly bounce back when pressed with a finger. If not, continue to knead.
  • Transfer dough to a cutting board and divide into 15 equal balls. (If dough is too sticky, you can spray your hands with nonstick spray). Roll dough into sticks and place on buttered baking sheet. Roll sticks butter. (There will be remaining butter on the baking sheet after rolling breadsticks.)

PARMESAN BREADSTICKS - TASTE AND TELL
parmesan-breadsticks-taste-and-tell image
2007-06-18 The only problem with this recipe is that it is not easy to cut down because it only requires one egg for the whole recipe. This is a lot of breadsticks for 2 people!! This recipe would also be easy to change to what you are making, as well. You could add different herbs to the parmesan butter (I think an Italian blend would be so good!) For this recipe, I used freshly grated Parmesan …

  • In a large bowl, or the bowl of a stand mixer, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon of the sugar in 1 cup of the warm water. Add in the oil, egg, salt and 2 cups of the flour, the remaining sugar and remaining water. Beat the mixture until smooth. Continue adding flour until it is soft and tacky but not sticky. If using a mixer, change to the dough hook and knead until it is smooth and elastic. If not using a mixer, turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, turn over to coat, cover, and let sit until doubled, about 40 minutes (depending on the temperature of the room).
  • Punch the dough down. On a floured surface, cut the dough in half. Working with one piece at a time, roll the dough out, then use a pizza cutter to cut the dough into 18 pieces. Twist each breadstick and place on a greased baking sheet, 2 inches apart. Continue with the remaining dough. Cover the dough and let rise until doubled, about 25 minutes.
