The concept of an old-fashioned dates back to the early 1800s and includes whiskey, bitters, cherry juice, sugar and water. This old-fashioned recipe, which is extremely popular in Wisconsin, uses brandy in place of whiskey and lemon-lime soda instead of water for a milder cocktail. -Taste of Home Test Kitchen

1 orange slice
1 maraschino cherry
1-1/2 ounces maraschino cherry juice
1 teaspoon bitters
1/4 to 1/3 cup ice cubes
1-1/2 ounces brandy
2 teaspoons water
1 teaspoon orange juice
3 ounces lemon-lime soda

Steps:

  • In a rocks glass, muddle orange slice, cherry, cherry juice and bitters. Add ice. Pour in the brandy, water, orange juice and soda.

The brandy old-fashioned is a simple drink-and very popular in Wisconsin-that shows off your favorite brandy just like the famous whiskey cocktail.

1 sugar cube
Splash lemon-lime soda (more or less to taste)
2 to 3 dashes Angostura Bitters
2 orange slices
2 ​ maraschino cherries
2 ounces brandy

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.
  • Place the sugar cube in the bottom of an old-fashioned glass . Saturate the cube with a splash of soda and the bitters, then add orange slices and cherries.
  • Muddle the ingredients.
  • Add the brandy and stir well .
  • Add a single, large piece of ice (such as an ice ball ) and top with lemon-lime soda. Serve and enjoy.

1 tsp. Sugar
1 Orange Slice
2 Cherries and their juices
Dash of bitters (1 dropper full - 10 drops)
Top the glass off with 50/50 or Squirt Soda
Ice Cubes

Steps:

  • In a cocktail glass muddle sugar, orange slice, cherries and bitters, add shot of brandy and stir.
  • Add ice to fill the glass, then top it off with 50/50 or Squirt Soda and enjoy!
