4 cups cranberry juice cocktail
4 cups apple cider
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup dark rum
2 tablespoons honey
6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut up

Steps:

  • In stainless steel or enameled saucepan, combine juice, cider & cinnamon.
  • Bring to boil, then simmer 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat & stir in rum, honey & butter, until butter is melted.
  • Ladle into heated mugs & serve.

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 blood orange, blood
1 cup unsweetened pineapple juice, pineapple, unsweetened
1 quart cranberry juice, red
2 cinnamon sticks, 3-inch pieces
1 piece fresh ginger, 2-inch piece, fresh, peeled and sliced lengthwise
3 whole allspice, balls (not ground)
2 cloves, whole
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar, dark brown (or to taste)
4 orange slices, thin (garnish)

Steps:

  • Remove two, 3-inch-long strips of peel from the orange and set aside until needed.
  • Next juice and strain the orange.
  • To a medium pot, add the orange, pineapple and cranberry juices, orange peel, cinnamon sticks, ginger, allspice and cloves.
  • Make sure to sample and add the sugar if desired.
  • Heat over medium-high heat until it starts to simmer, then reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer 30 - 45 minutes.
  • Strain the cider, pour into warm mugs, add orange slices and serve immediately.

I was tired of making the same cloyingly sweet apple cider, so I decided to try this one off allrecipes.com, and, boy, am I ever glad I did! This cider has the perfect mix of tart and sweet and spicy, and it's so easy, too. You can even substitute ground cinnamon for the cinnamon sticks if you want. We did, and the cider still turned out fantastic.

2 quarts apple cider
6 cups cranberry juice
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
4 cinnamon sticks
1 1/2 teaspoons whole cloves
1 lemon, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • In a large pot, combine apple cider, cranberry juice, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves and lemon slices.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. That's it! You're done.
  • (Juniperwoman's Note: If you like, you can use a slotted spoon to remove cinnamon, cloves, and lemon slices, but we just left them in because they looked so festive! If you do remove the lemon slices, you could float individual slices in each serving cup.).

Steps:

  • Peel and juice orange; discard pulp, pith, and seeds.
  • Combine orange juice, cranberry-raspberry drink, and sugar in a 3 1/2-5 qt crockpot.
  • Place orange peel, cinnamon, cloves and anise on a double thick, 8 inch square of cheesecloth and bring corners together and tie.
  • Place the spice bag in the cooker and cook 2 1/2-3 hours on high (5-6 hours on low).
  • Serve in mugs while still hot.
