Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup sweet livestock corn oats and barley feed mix (wet)
2 -3 cups wheat bran (dry)
1 cup flax seed
1 tablespoon salt
5 large apples, grated (leave the skins)
1 cup molasses (blackstrap)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce
corn oil, for pans

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Prepare cookie sheets by lining with foil and spraying or brushing with corn oil.
  • Mix ingredients starting with the lesser amount of bran.
  • Add bran as necessary to make a stiff dough.
  • Drop by tablespoonfuls onto prepared sheets.
  • Flatten with oil-dipped glass or fork.
  • Bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, turn over and continue baking for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Watch carefully.
  • If they brown too quickly, reduce heat to 250 degrees.
  • Cool completely, store in airtight containers.

These cookies your horse will love. I've made them for the pickiest horses and they have loved them. I'm sure if you make them your horse will love them too.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup of horse oats or 1 cup uncooked oatmeal
1 cup flour
1 cup of shredded carrot
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup molasses (or mix two teaspoons of sugar to every five teaspoons of pancake syrup and stir in)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients in bowl in order listed.
  • Make small or medium size balls out of mixture and place on a greased cookie sheet sprayed with Pam.
  • For extra happy horses you can sprinkle a little bit of honey on them before cooking.
  • Bake 350°F for 15-20 minutes and make sure they don't burn!

This is a cheap alternative to buying horse cookies and my horse loves them! Not for human consumption.

4 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups oatmeal
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 egg
3/4 cup applesauce
4 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 cup molasses
1 cup hot water

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300°F and grease cookie sheet.
  • Mix flour, oatmeal, and molasses. Add to dry to ingredients. Mix in hot water and mix thoroughly.
  • Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thickness on a floured surface. Cut into shapes using cookie cutters and place on cookie sheet and bake 1 hour.
  • Turn oven off and leave the oven door shut until they cool (this makes them crunchy).

This is an extremely simple horse cookie that I developed for my special boy, Blue. Try them, they are so much cheaper to make than buying those ridiculously priced ones at the tack shop! As a matter of fact, you could probably even whip up a batch in the time it takes just to get there!

2 cups oatmeal
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sunflower seeds (or bran, crushed candy, or whatever it is your horse loves most)
3 medium carrots, shredded
1 cup applesauce
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup molasses

Steps:

  • in a large bowl, mix together the first 5 ingredients.
  • in a smaller bowl, combine the applesauce, honey, and molasses.
  • pour the wet ingredients over the dry and mix with a wooden spoon. (batter will be tough).
  • if you are having trouble getting all of the ingredients to combine, add in small amounts of water and continue mixing until all of dry ingredients have been incorporated.
  • roll batter into golfball-sized balls and place on a cookie sheet.
  • flatten each ball with either your hand of the bottom of a measuring cup.
  • bake at 350 for 15 minutes.
