1 (1 1/4 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1 cup sour cream
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 cup soft breadcrumbs
2 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Combine onion soup mix with sour cream in a bowl; add eggs.
  • Mix in ground beef.
  • Add bread crumbs; mix well.
  • Shape into a loaf.
  • Place in loaf pan; lay bacon over top.
  • Place in preheated 500ºF oven.
  • Reduce heat.
  • Bake at 375ºF for 1 hour.

2 pounds extra lean ground beef
2 cups crushed buttery round crackers or fresh bread crumbs
2 large eggs, slightly beaten
1 onion, finely chopped
1 (12 ounce) jar Crosse & Blackwell® Seafood Cocktail Sauce, divided
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
4 slices bacon
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ teaspoon dry mustard

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine beef, cracker crumbs, eggs, onion, 3/4 jar cocktail sauce, salt and pepper in large bowl. Stir to combine. Pat mixture into 9x5-inch loaf pan. Place strips of bacon on top of meatloaf.
  • Bake 50 minutes. While meatloaf is baking, stir together remaining 1/2 cup cocktail sauce, brown sugar and dry mustard in small bowl.
  • Remove meatloaf after 50 minutes. Spread sauce mixture on top and bake an additional 15 minutes. Remove from oven, serve hot.

Beautifully mellow in flavor, this meatloaf has a ribbon of cheese flowing through the middle of it. Use the cheese of your choice. In this recipe, I use Cheddar cheese, but you could try it with blue cheese or American cheese.

3 slices soft bread, torn into small pieces
1 cup milk
1 pound lean ground beef
1 pound ground lean pork
1 egg yolk
¼ cup minced onion
1 teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
¼ teaspoon ground dry mustard
¼ teaspoon dried sage
¼ teaspoon celery salt
¼ teaspoon garlic salt
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg white, beaten
1 tablespoon water
2 slices soft bread, torn into small pieces
5 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the bread and milk. Add the beef, pork, egg yolk, onion, salt, ground black pepper, dry mustard, sage, celery salt, garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well and set aside.
  • To make filling, in a medium bowl combine the egg white and water. Toss lightly with the bread pieces and Cheddar cheese.
  • Pat 1/2 of the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan. Cover with the cheese filling and top with the remaining meat mixture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 large egg yolk
1 cup whole milk
3 slices bread, torn into small pieces
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon each celery salt, garlic salt, ground mustard, rubbed sage and pepper
1-1/2 pounds lean ground beef
FILLING:
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 slices bread, torn into small pieces
1 large egg white, beaten
1 tablespoon water

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first three ingredients. Let stand for 5 minutes. Add the onion, Worcestershire sauce and seasonings. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Pat half into a greased 9x5-in. loaf pan. Combine filling ingredients; spoon over meat mixture. pat remaining meat mixture over filling. bake, uncovered, at 350° for 1-1/2 hours or until meat is no longer pink and a thermometer reads 16°; drain. Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

This is a great go to recipe. It's easy and relatively inexpensive to make.

1 1/2 lb lean ground beef or turkey
3/4 c quaker oats
3/4 c finely chopped onion
1/2 c ketchup
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 Tbsp worcestershire sauce
2 clove garlic, minced
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
FOR THE SAUCE:
1/2 c grated onion
1 c ketchup
5 Tbsp brown sugar
1-2 Tbsp vinegar

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredientsin large bowl; mix lightly but thoroughly. Bake 50-55 minutes or until meatloaf is to medium doneness. (Beef 160 degrees, Turkey 170).
  • 2. Twenty minutes before the meatloaf is done, drain off grease and liquid. Cover the meatloaf with 1/2 cup of the grated onion. Mix the remaining sauce ingredients in a pan and heat slightly, do not boil. Brush on top of meatloaf. If you like more sauce you can always double the ingredients. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.

I found this recipe in the early 70's and have never wavered in making it for my family. Now, my daughters make the same one for their little families. It's the best meat loaf I've ever tasted! Maybe it's the cheese?? :)

2 eggs
2/3 c milk
2 tsp salt
3 bread slices
1 small onion, chopped fine
1/2 c shredded raw carrot
1 c shredded cheddar cheese
1 1/2 lb ground beef - pretty lean!
1/4 c brown sugar
1/4 c catsup
1 Tbsp prepared mustard

Steps:

  • 1. Break eggs in large mixing bowl. Add milk, salt and crumbled bread. Let set until bread is soft and disintegated. Add onion, carrot, cheese and beef. Mix well and pack in a loaf pan, OR a 9 x 13 cake pan.
  • 2. For the topping, mix brown sugar, catsup and prepared mustard together and spread on top of the meat loaf.
  • 3. Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Let stand at least 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
