GRANDMA'S PERFECT HOMEMADE BREAD
Steps:
- In a stand mixer add the warm water, sugar, salt and yeast. Let the yeast proof until it bubbles for about 5 minutes. Using the dough hook start adding the flour one cup at a time until the dough combines and forms a soft dough.
- On a floured surface knead the dough until smooth and elastic and form a ball. Add the oil to the large bowl and add the dough to the bowl and cover. Let rise until it has doubled 1- 1 1/2 hours.
- Grease and flour 2 9x5 inch pans. Punch the dough to release the air. Lay the dough onto a flat surface and cut into two loaves. Roll each loaf up and place into the loaf pans. Let rise until it doubles another 1-1 1/2 hours.
- Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown on the tops. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.

BLIZZARD BREAD
We have a lot of snow days in N.E. Pennsylvania. So, we sprinkle a little snow on our French Toast too. Well, not real snow, but confectionery sugar is a great substitute. When snow is in the forecast, you have a hard time finding bread, eggs, and milk on grocery shelves. Get them early! Why? Because along with snowy days...comes comfort food - French Toast for breakfast. It's also a favorite for sleepovers. The kids always request Blizzard Bread for breakfast, even if it's 100 degrees outside.

Steps:
- Beat 5-6 eggs in a bowl.
- Beat in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 Cup of Milk to the eggs.
- Melt about 1 tablespoon of Butter on a flat griddle or frying pan on Medium heat.
- Dip each piece of bread, both sides, in the egg mixture and place on the griddle.
- After a minute or two, check to see if the "griddle side" bread is golden brown.
- When the griddle side bread is golden brown, flip it to the other side.
- Check after a minute of two.
- (At your discretion, you may need to add more butter to the griddle for any pieces of bread that have not yet been on the griddle).
- When bread is golden brown on both sides, transfer to a serving plate.
- If you so choose, you can ad a sliver of butter on top of each slice of bread.
- Then, put your syrup on or allow the person eating it to put their own on.
- Now, for the finishing touch and the fun part. Create a blizzard on top of your French Toast with Confectioners Sugar. You can use a sifter or just sprinkle it on right from the bag.

HOW TO MAKE CRUSTY BREAD - KING ARTHUR BAKING
From kingarthurbaking.com
- To make crusty bread, choose the right recipe. On the left, soft, butter-and-milk enriched pull-apart dinner rolls. On the right, a crusty Italian loaf.
- Shape the dough with more rather than less surface area. A big, fat, round or oval loaf – a boule – doesn't have as much opportunity to shine in the crisp crust department as does a thin baguette, or individual rolls.
- To make crusty bread, create steam in the oven. Remember the artisan bakers I mentioned at the beginning, those masters of the perfect crusty crust? They have a professional secret: the steam-injected oven.
- Bake on a pizza stone or steel. Many bakers find they can create a decent crisp top crust, but struggle to make their bread's bottom crusty, as well.
- To keep bread crusty, cool baked loaves in the oven. This may sound like an oxymoron – cool bread in the oven? – but it works. Once the bread is baked, turn off the oven.
