½ cup butter
2 cups self-rising flour
2 cups white sugar
2 cups milk
3 ½ cups blackberries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Once oven temperature is reached melt butter in a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl stir together the flour, sugar and milk; batter will be slightly lumpy. Pour mixture on top of melted butter in baking pan. Do not mix butter and mixture together.
  • Drop blackberries into batter; if more crust is desired add less blackberries. Bake in preheated oven for one hour or until golden brown.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups white sugar, divided
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold butter
¼ cup boiling water
2 tablespoons cornstarch
¼ cup cold water
1 tablespoon lemon juice
4 cups fresh blackberries, rinsed and drained

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in 1/4 cup boiling water just until mixture is evenly moist.
  • In a separate bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in cold water. Mix in remaining 1 cup sugar, lemon juice, and blackberries. Transfer to a cast iron skillet, and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Drop dough into the skillet by spoonfuls. Place skillet on the foil lined baking sheet.
  • Bake 25 minutes in the preheated oven, until dough is golden brown.

¾ cup milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Pour the melted butter into the bottom of an 8x8-inch square baking pan. Mix the sugar, self-rising flour, and milk together until moistened, and pour the mixture over the butter. Do not stir. Spread blackberries evenly over the batter.

½ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
6 cups fresh blackberries
¼ cup melted butter
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups white sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
¼ cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly oil a 9x13-inch baking dish. Whisk 1/2 cup sugar with the cornstarch in a small bowl; set aside.
  • Place the blackberries into a mixing bowl, and drizzle with 1/4 cup of melted butter. Sprinkle with the cornstarch mixture, and toss to evenly coat. Spread the berries into the prepared baking dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, 1 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt until evenly blended. Stir in the milk, vanilla extract, and 1/4 cup melted butter until combined but still slightly lumpy. Pour the batter over the berries.

½ cup milk
¼ cup melted margarine
2 cups fresh blackberries
½ cup white sugar
1 cup water

Steps:

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • Whisk 1/2 cup sugar together with the flour and baking powder in a mixing bowl. Stir in the milk and margarine until a batter forms. Scrape into the prepared baking dish. Add the blackberries, and sprinkle with 1/2 cup sugar. Pour in the water.

1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons melted butter, divided
1 cup self-rising flour
1-1/2 cups sugar, divided
1 cup 2% milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups fresh blackberries or frozen unsweetened blackberries

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Pour 1/2 cup melted butter into an 8-in. square baking dish. In a small bowl, combine flour, 1 cup sugar, milk and vanilla until blended; pour into prepared dish.
