1/4 cup sesame paste, or tahini
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
Salt, to taste
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Serve with hot pita bread , pita chips , cut up vegetable crudités, or tortilla chips.

Tahini, olive oil and lemon juice flavor this black bean version of traditional hummus, that's perfect for introducing little ones to new flavors.

1 1/2 cup cooked black beans or 1 (15-ounce) can no-salt-added black beans, drained and rinsed
1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon tahini
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

Steps:

  • Combine black beans, oil, lemon juice, tahini and cumin in a food processor and purée until smooth.
  • The hummus will keep refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • (Suggested age: 10 months and up)

1 clove garlic
1 (15 ounce) can black beans; drain and reserve liquid
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 ½ tablespoons tahini
¾ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon paprika
10 Greek olives

Steps:

  • Mince garlic in the bowl of a food processor. Add black beans, 2 tablespoons reserved liquid, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, tahini, 1/2 teaspoon cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper; process until smooth, scraping down the sides as needed. Add additional seasoning and liquid to taste. Garnish with paprika and Greek olives.

1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Pita bread rounds, cut into triangles
*Available at Middle Eastern and natural foods stores and some supermarkets.

Steps:

  • Combine first 9 ingredients in processor until smooth. Season hummus to taste with salt and pepper. Spoon hummus into bowl. Serve with pita triangles.
