Steps:
- Layer your ingredients in the jar as follows: First, put in the wholemeal flour mixed with baking powder. Then, the dried cranberries followed by the rolled oats with cinnamon. Your fourth layer is the soft brown sugar seasoned with flaky sea salt and finally, the white chocolate chunks and Horlicks. If giving the jar as a present, simply download our gift tag with the recipe method and print it off, stick it on the jar and tie a ribbon around the top.
- If you want to make the biscuits yourself, or would rather handwrite the label, the method is as follows: Butter two baking sheets and pre-heat the oven (180C/160C fan/gas 4). Whisk an egg, the soft butter and vanilla extract in a bowl using an electric whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy, so about 5 mins.
- Add the contents of the jar and mix together gently to form a dough. Put 12 golf-ball-sized spoonfuls of the dough onto each baking sheet, then bake for 11 mins. Remove the cookies from the oven and leave to cool a bit on the baking sheets. Eat them while they're still warm.

- Whichever cookie jar recipe you’re making, combine the first 3 ingredients (flour, baking soda, salt). Now it’s time to layer the ingredients in 32 ounce mason jars. I suggest layering the dry ingredients into the jars in a thoughtful way so each layer stands out. Dark (cocoa powder), light (granulated sugar), dark (brown sugar), light (flour + baking soda + salt), dark (chocolate chips), then the peppermint bark or M&Ms. Use a spoon to layer or, if you’re particular like I am, use a funnel so the layers are extra neat. Seal the lids, decorate with ribbon, and gift with the free printable tags.
- In a large bowl using a hand-held mixer or stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, beat the butter, egg, and vanilla extract together on high speed until combined. Don’t worry if the egg isn’t fully combining with the butter; it’ll all come together with the dry ingredients. Add all of the jar ingredients and mix on low speed until combined. Cookie dough does NOT require chilling. Drop by rounded Tablespoonfuls onto parchment paper or silicone baking mat lined baking sheets, about 3 inches apart. Bake in a 350°F (177°C) oven for about 10 minutes until the edges are set. Each recipe yields about 2 dozen cookies. Cookies stay fresh in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Cookie dough balls freeze well for up to 3 months. Here’s how to freeze cookie dough.

- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl. Pour into the bottom of a 1-quart mason jar (I rolled up a paper plate to use as a funnel). Top the flour mixture with M&M's, dropping them in lightly, so that they don't sink into the flour. Top the M&M's with brown sugar, and then granulated sugar (use a spoon to carefully scoop the sugars into the jar). Seal with the lid and decorate with ribbon and fabric (see note).
- In a large bowl, whisk 1/2 cup of melted and cooled unsalted butter, 1 large egg, and 2 teaspoons vanilla extract. Add the contents of the jar and gently stir with a wooden spoon or rubber spatula until combined (dough will be crumbly). Chill for 30 minutes.
