This is found in the July 2010 magazine under a section called "Fast Summer Meals". I am posting it to make it easy to find. I can't wait to try this.

1/2 lb Italian sausage
1/2 lb ground beef
2 granny smith apples
8 slices bacon
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
4 hamburger buns

Steps:

  • Core and finely chop one apple.
  • Mix sausage, beef and chopped apple and shape into burgers.
  • Grill directly over medium high heat for 4-5 minutes per side (until pink no longer remains).
  • While burgers are cooking, cook bacon and toast hamburger buns.
  • In a small bowl stir together mayonnaise, mustard and honey.
  • Put mayo-honey-mustard spread on a toasted bun and top with cooked burger.
  • Core and slice an additional green apple.
  • Place 2 slices of apple and 2 slices of bacon on top of burger.
  • Top with other bun half and enjoy!

1/2 cup chopped green onions or 1/2 cup finely chopped white onion
2 tablespoons fine dry breadcrumbs
2 red serrano peppers, seeded and finely chopped
3 canned chipotle chiles in adobo, chopped
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 lb lean ground beef
4 wheat hamburger buns, split (1-inch-thick) or 8 slices bread (1-inch-thick)
roasted red pepper catsup, roasted garlic catsup (optional) or other purchased flavored catsup (optional)
4 slices tomatoes (optional)
sliced red onion (optional)
red serrano pepper (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine green onion or white onion, bread crumbs, serrano peppers, chipotle peppers, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add beef; mix well. Shape meat mixture into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.
  • For a charcoal grill, place patties on the grill rack directly over medium coals. Grill, uncovered, for 14 to 18 minutes or until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the side of a patty registers 160°F, turning once.
  • For a gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place patties on the grill rack; cover and grill as above.
  • Grill or toast buns or bread. Serve burgers on grilled or toasted buns or bread topped, if desired, with flavored catsup, tomato slices, red onion slices, and serrano peppers.

1/2 cup onion, chopped
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 dash pepper
1 cup sour cream
3 slices bacon, diced
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon paprika
10 3/4 ounces mushroom soup
12 (16 ounce) bags noodles
1 tablespoon poppy seed

Steps:

  • Place ground beef and bacon in skillet. Cook and stir until beef is browned. Add onion an cook just until tender. Spoon off excess fat. Blend flour and seasonings into meat. Stir in soup. Simmer uncovered for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. Stir in sour cream; heat. Serve over cooked noodles tossed with poppy seeds.

1/3 lb ground chuck
seasoning salt, to taste
one hamburger bun
2 ounces habenero cheese, Cabot brand preferred (it is VERY spicy)
3 tablespoons fat free sour cream
1/3 avocado, sliced
2 slices bacon, cooked

Steps:

  • Make burger patty and generously season with seasoned salt (Lawry's).
  • Grill. I grill 8 minutes per side on low to medium-low heat.
  • Place sour cream on insides of bun.
  • During last 6 minutes of grilling add cheese to meat, and place bun off heat on grill.
  • To serve, top with avocado and bacon.

This is by far the best burger recipe I have tried. It is a recipe I clipped from a magazine--sorry folks, just can't remember which one. TRY THESE you'll never fix a plain hamburger again. They are so tender and juicy and the bacon fat adds just a hint of smoky flavor. I don't think you'll be sorry!

8 slices bacon
1 -2 slice white bread, crusts removed, cut into 1 inch pieces. (about 1 cup)
1/4 cup milk
1 1/2 lbs of 85- 90% lean ground beef
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 large garlic cloves, very finely minced
vegetable oil, for grill rack

Steps:

  • Fry bacon in skillet. Place 3 tablespoons of bacon fat into heatproof bowl and set in refrigerator while preparing other ingredients.
  • Put bread in bowl, add milk, and let mixture sit about 5 minutes. Using a fork, mash bread and milk till smooth paste forms.
  • Break up beef into small bits into a medium size bowl. Season with salt and pepper, then add garlic, bread paste, and reserved chilled bacon fat. Lightly knead all ingredients to mix and incorporate. Divide into 4 patties.
  • Oil cooking grate and grill burgers over a very hot fire, without squeezing down on them, until well seared on both sides (7-10 mins depending on preference for doneness). Top burgers with bacon previously cooked. Serve on buns.
