A healthy spin on American favorite guilty treat. Now eating french fries can be something you feel good about.

Time 35m

Yield 3-4

Number Of Ingredients 5

3 lbs of Russet potatoes
½+ tsp sea salt
2 tsp favorite seasoning (I like using Kirkland Organic; Mrs. Dash is another option, or fresh herbs, such as dill, parsley, cilantro, etc.)
2 tbsp chopped dill (optional)
2 tbsp olive oil (optional)

Steps:

  • preheat oven to 450 F
  • wash your spuds thoroughly, keeping skins on for more nutrition
  • slice each, lengthwise into ¼-3/8 planks, as shown in image in the post
  • slice each plank into ¼ to ⅜-inch batons
  • HERE IS A PERFECT VIDEO ON HOW TO HAND-CUT FRIES
  • place cut batons into a mixing bowl, add salt and spices and toss
  • if you want crispier fries, you can add a little bit of olive oil to toss, but it is good to skip this to shave off unwanted calories, and to keep your arteries healthier
  • line two large baking sheets with parchment paper (most of oil will absorb into it)
  • lay out batons on baking sheets and place into the oven
  • bake 15-20 mins, until fries begin to brown on the bottoms, then flip over with a spatula and bake another 5+ minutes, or until you achieve that perfect golden-crunchy-munch-inducing perfection

LOW FAT " MC DONALD'S" FRENCH FRIES

Low Fat

I got this from Devin Alexander's cookbook, Fast Food Fix. They are wonderful! They taste very close to a full fat version of McDonald's fries. Enjoy!

Provided by MamaJ

Categories     Potato

Time 45m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 3/4 teaspoons salt, divided
1 -2 russet potato
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil

Steps:

  • Bring water to boil in a saucepan over high heat. Add one teaspoon of salt.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Peel potatoes and slice into 1/4 inch fries.
  • Weigh the potatoes and measure out 9 ounces.
  • Transfer potatoes to boiling water and cook exactly 2 1/2 minutes.
  • Drain in colander and let cool (about 5 minutes).
  • Transfer cooled potatoes to a mixing bowl and add oil and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.
  • Mix gently to coat.
  • Spread in a single layer on a non stick baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until crisp and golden.
  • Turn every five minutes during the last half of cooking.
  • Add the remaining salt if desired. (I found them plenty salty without).
  • Note: Mine took 30 minutes to achieve the right level of crispiness--so check for crispness before removing from the oven.
  • Chef Alexander states that this recipe is equal to a medium order of fries and has 5 grams of fat (as opposed to 17 grams of fat in the original version).

EASY CRISPY OVEN FRIES (LOW FAT, LOW CAL)

Easy Crispy Oven Fries (Low Fat, Low Cal) image

This is a delicious lower fat, lower calorie baked french fry--evidently soaking the potatoes in the salt-sugar solution draws out some of their water. This way they brown and crisp instead of steam. So yummy! (to me, these taste like the fry-daddy type french fries my mom made me when I was a kid!) My non-dieter husband also deemed these delicious. 159 calories/5 g. fat, 0 mg. cholesterol/28 g. carbs/3 g fiber Weight Watchers Points per serving: 3 This came from a WW book, but I'm not sure which one.

Time 35m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/4 lbs baking potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch strips
1/2 teaspoon sugar
4 teaspoons oil
1 teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spray a non-stick baking sheet w/ non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a lg. bowl, combine potatoes, 1/4 teaspoons of the salt and all of sugar w/ cold water to cover. Soak 15 min, drain and blot dry.
  • In another lg. bowl, toss potatoes w/ oil and paprika. Place in a single layer on the baking sheet.
  • Bake, turning potatoes over as they brown, until cooked through and crisp. (Could take anywhere from 25-45 min., depending on how you cut your potatoes and your oven. My fries only took about 25 minute I checked on my potatoes and turned them about every 5 minute or so. You will see them browning and hear them sizzling.) Sprinkle w/ the remaining 1/2 teaspoons of salt.
