Berry Crostata Recipe: The Best Italian Dessert image

This easy-to-make but impressive-looking Italian berry crostata recipe is made with pasta frolla and berries. The perfect summer dessert!

¼ cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
4 cups mixed fresh small fruit (cut-up strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
1 teaspoon lemon zest (finely grated)
1½ cups all purpose flour (210 grams)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
½ teaspoon lemon zest
½ teaspoon salt
⅓ cup butter (frozen)
⅓ cup ice cold water
1 egg yolk
1 egg
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon of Turbinado or coarse sugar for sprinkling on egg wash
1½ cups mixed small fruit (cut-up strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice (freshly squeezed )
Mint leaves for garnish.

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375℉ (190°C); position the rack in the middle.

This is from a cookbook I bought in a CA winery called "Seriously Simple". This is a quick dessert that looks impressive! We enjoyed!

12 slices French bread, of your choice (1/2-inch thick, or 12 slices sweet bread, of your choice)
1/4 cup mascarpone cheese, at room temperature
2 cups fresh berries (such as raspberries or 2 cups blackberries)
1/4 cup honey, such as orange blossom, lavender, star thistle

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place bread slices on a baking sheet and toast for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Arrange the toasts on a platter and spread about 1 teaspoon of marscarpone on each one.
  • Arrange berries on top and drizzle lightly with honey.
  • Serve immediately.
  • NOTE: An attractive alternative for a brunch or dinner party is to arrange a soft, creamy blue cheese, a strong Cheddar, and a triple-cream cheese in a basket. Place slices of toasted raisin-nut bread around the cheese. Place a pot of honey in the basket and let your guests make their own selection and combination.

Berries & Cream Crostini image

Perfect for a snack, an appetizer or even a better for you dessert!

Provided by The Novice Chef

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 french baguette, sliced in 3/4 inch slices
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1 (7 oz) package Arla Original Cream Cheese Spread
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups diced fresh mixed berries
honey, for topping

Steps:

  • Heat broiler on oven. Arrange baguette slices on two large baking sheets inan even layer. Brush both sides with butter.
  • Place an oven rack about 4 inches away from the broiler.
  • Toast baguette slices until golden brown, about 2 minutes, depending on your oven. Flip crostini and toast the other side as well.
  • Let cool on baking sheets.
  • In a medium bowl, whip Arla Original Cream Cheese Spread, powdered sugar, cinnamon and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Generously spread cream cheese mixture on top of crostinis. Top with berries and drizzle with honey. Serve immediately.
