- In a large bowl, combine ketchup, brown sugar, red wine vinegar, Dijon-style mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and liquid smoke. Stir in salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Place chuck roast in a slow cooker. Pour ketchup mixture over chuck roast. Cover, and cook on Low for 8 to 10 hours.
- Remove chuck roast from slow cooker, shred with a fork, and return to the slow cooker. Stir meat to evenly coat with sauce. Continue cooking approximately 1 hour.

This recipe came from a military wife almost 30 years ago (thanks Elise) and it couldn't be much easier. Simply combine all ingredients and cook for 3 hours, then shred the meat. Serve it on buns of your choice...and then sit back and take in the compliments! Everyone loves this recipe, and I've used it at fund raising events with great success! Excellent with potato salad or coleslaw.

- Place roast in a Dutch oven, and sprinkle with chopped onions. Cover with tomatoes, water, sugar and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

- Place roast in a large covered pan. Roast at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 2 hours, or until the meat falls apart and shreds easily.
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions, and saute until onions become translucent.

- Place the beef roast into a pot, either a stove top pot or slow cooker.
- In a medium bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, orange preserves, mustard, brown sugar and onion. Pour this mixture over the beef
- Cover the pot and cook on the stove, over low heat, for 7 to 8 hours. If you are using a slow cooker, set it to low and cook for the same amount of time, 7 or 8 hours.
- To bake the bbq beef in the oven, set the oven temperature to about 300ºF. Place everything in the pot as directed above, then pop the pot into the heated oven and bake for several hours.
- When it is well cooked and very tender, remove the beef from the pot. You can either cut the meat into thin slices or shred it with two large forks. Put the shredded or sliced beef back into the pot and stir it into the sauce. Cover and cook again on low for 20 to 30 minutes until it is all nice and hot.
- Fill your favorite buns with the barbecue beef.

- Combine brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside. Add chuck roast to slow cooker, drizzle with mustard and rub into the meat.
- Sprinkle with half of the rub. Rub into the meat, flip the roast over and rub the remaining rub into the meat. Pour in beef broth and liquid smoke (if using), being careful to pour it around the roast, not over it. You don't want to wash away that rub and mustard! Top with butter slices. Dad gave me this recipe when I was still in University years ago. It's so easy, I still remember it! Perfect for summer dinner parties - not a 'beautiful' presentation but, the taste and smell MORE than make up for that. Easily halved or doubled. Try it with a grainy or spicy mustard. - In a small bowl, mix together the mustard and onion soup mix. Lay out two long sheets of aluminum foil crosswise. Pat the roast dry, and place in the center of the foil. Generously coat the roast with the mustard mixture. Wrap the foil tightly around the roast, then apply one more piece of foil to really seal it in so that the roast can be rotated without all of the juices spilling out. This process may be done as early as the morning before.
- Prepare an outdoor grill for indirect heat. For charcoal, light the coals, then move to one side of the grill. For gas, light only one burner, and cook on the unlit side.
- Place the roast on the grill, and cover. Cook for about 2 hours, turning every 30 to 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature is at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).
- Let stand for about 10 minutes before carving. Place on a deep serving plate before unwrapping so you can be sure to save the juices and mustard rub to slather on the beef slices.
