FIZZY BATH BOMBS
These bath bombs make fantastic gifts - they are just dropped into a hot bath & they fizz & dissolve releasing a beautiful fragrance! Surprisingly easy to make, let your imagination run WILD & experiment with different oils & colours - I also like to add dried rose petals, dried lavender & fine glitter......the possibilities are endless! I use heart shaped moulds, friand cake tins & round Christmas baubles for moulds. Let me know your ideas! I buy the citric acid in a large bag from an Asian supermarket.

- In a large bowl whisk together the baking soda, citric acid, Epsom salt, cornstarch and (only if using) powdered food coloring.
- In a separate small bowl combine the melted coconut oil, water and essential oils. (We used peppermint, but I’m guessing that this would work great with lavender, sweet orange or chamomile.)
- While continuously whisking, very slowly drizzle the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients until well combined. The outcome (as pictured below) should be similar to a dry, crumbly sand and should not be a "wet" consistency. Warning: If mixture gets too wet it will activate the fizzy part of the bath bomb too soon!
- TIGHTLY pack the mixture into each side of the mold then press the two sides together. Ideally let it stay in the mold overnight, then lightly tap around the mold with a spoon to very carefully open and remove bath bomb. Finished product will still be somewhat fragile, so be careful!

- Sift the baking soda into a good-sized mixing bowl, this will break up any clumps or lumps that maybe hiding in there.
- In a heat-proof container, melt the cocoa butter by giving it a few quick bursts in the microwave, or in a hot water bath. Once the butter has melted, stir the fragrance or essential oil into the butter.
- Add the cocoa butter containing the fragrance to the baking soda and SLSA powder. You will need to incorporate this in well so that the butter is fully blended into the powders. I often find using my hands for this is better than a spoon. Once the butter has been added to the powders, and the SLSA has been dampened with the butter, its safe to remove your dust mask.

- In a medium bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients. Add as much or as little color pigment to achieve desired look. Whisk to combine.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ones very slowly. (This is very important; otherwise you will activate the citric acid which is used to create the fizzing affect.) Mix until combined, and the ingredients look like wet sand.
- Fill each half of the mold, packing the mixture in slightly until it's overflowing. Press the halves together firmly. Let the filled mold sit for one minute. Lightly tap the mold and gently pull it apart to remove the bath bomb. Let the bath bombs dry for 24 hours before enjoying in the tub.

- Mix the Baking Soda and Constarch. Mix the baking soda and cornstarch in a large mixing bowl. For now, keep the citric acid set aside and do not mix it in.
- Add Essential Oil. Add the essential oil a few drops at a time into the mixture and mix until fully incorporated. You may find that it's easier to use your hands to incorporate the oil, rather than a spoon.
- Add the Coloring. Mix the color a few drops at a time into the dry mixture using your hands. The more drops you use, the deeper and more saturated the color will become.
- Add the Water. Add water half a teaspoon at a time, stirring the mixture in after each addition. Keep adding water until the mixture becomes the texture of damp sand and will hold in a tight clump.
- Mold the Ball. Pack the two sides of your bath bomb mold full of the mixture. Pack it tightly and slightly overfill. Press the two sides of the mold together as tightly as you can.
- Smooth the Sides. Use the back of the spoon to smooth the seam of the ball where the molds met.
- Let the Balls Dry. The bath bombs need to harden before they can be used. Leave them to dry overnight at room temperature.
