"We've been making these refreshing burgers for years," Jill Christopher explains from Grants Pass, Oregon. "Served on onion rolls with cream cheese and avocado on top, they're a nice change from the regular cheeseburger. Everybody asks for them when we barbecue."

2 tablespoons minced fresh basil or 2 teaspoons dried basil
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1-1/2 pounds ground beef
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
4 onion rolls, split and toasted
4 slices red onion
1 medium ripe avocado, peeled and sliced

Steps:

  • In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into four patties. , Grill, uncovered, over medium-hot heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until juices run clear. , Spread cream cheese over cut side of roll tops. Place burgers, onion and avocado on roll bottoms; replace tops.

1/2 cup loosely packed basil leaves, minced
1/4 cup minced red onion
1/4 cup Italian bread crumbs
1/4 cup dry red wine
1 to 2 teaspoons garlic salt
2 pounds lean ground beef (90% lean)
8 slices Monterey Jack cheese, optional
8 hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the basil, onion, bread crumbs, wine and garlic salt. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into eight patties. , Grill, covered, over medium heat for 5-7 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Top with cheese if desired. Serve on buns.

3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ tablespoons dried basil, or to taste

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat.
  • In a bowl, mix the ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, basil, garlic salt, and pepper. Form the mixture into 4 burger patties.
  • Lightly oil the grill grate, and cook burgers about 6 minutes, turning once, to an internal temperature of 160 degrees F (70 degrees C), or to desired doneness. Serve on hamburger buns.

½ onion, finely chopped
½ cup egg substitute
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1 teaspoon light soy sauce
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
4 whole wheat hamburger buns, split
4 leaves lettuce leaves
4 slices tomato

Steps:

  • Preheat an outdoor grill for high heat and lightly oil the grate.
  • Mix ground turkey, onion, egg substitute, basil, horseradish, soy sauce, pepper, and garlic in a large mixing bowl; form into 4 patties.
  • Cook the turkey burgers on the preheated grill until no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 6 minutes per side. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Serve on buns with lettuce and tomato.

1 1/4 pounds ground beef (80-percent lean)
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/4 cup shredded mozzarella
4 English muffins, halved horizontally and toasted
1 tomato, sliced and lightly salted
Perfect Basil Sauce, recipe follows
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
1 green onion, chopped
3 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh basil
1 large clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup prepared mayonnaise
3 tablespoons sour cream
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Quarter the beef into even portions. Form into burgers, indenting the middle slightly with your thumb. Season with salt and pepper, and brush lightly with vegetable oil. Cook on a hot grill until charred on the outside and pink on the inside, about 4 minutes per side. Two minutes before removing the burgers, top the burgers with the mozzarella cheese.
  • Place the toasted muffins on a serving platter. Place the tomato slices on the bottom, and top each with cooked patties. Spread a tablespoon or two of the basil sauce on each bun top and sprinkle with a little Parmesan cheese. Serve extra basil sauce on the side for dipping.
  • Blend the green onion, basil, garlic, mayonnaise, sour cream, and Worcestershire sauce in a blender until creamy and pale green. Taste the sauce and season with salt and pepper, if needed.

2 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients except bacon. Shape mixture into 2 patties, about 3/4 inch thick. Place on microwavable rack in rectangular microwavable dish, 11x7x1 1/2 inches. Cover with waxed paper and microwave on High 2 minutes 45 seconds to 4 minutes or until just slightly pink in center.
