Provided by Sharon Jones

Categories     Seafood Appetizers

Number Of Ingredients 19

1 lb medium, peeled/deveined shrimp
SAUCE
1/2 c mayonnaise
4-5 tsp chili garlic sauce
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 tsp rice vinegar
FOR THE EGG MIXTURE;
1 egg, beaten
1 c milk
FOR FRYING MIXTURE:
8-12 c vegetable oil
FOR BREADING MIXTURE:
1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c panko bread crumbs
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp dried basil

Steps:

  • 1. 1. Combine all ingredents for the sauce in a small bowl, and set aside. 2. Combine beaten egg with milk in shallow bowl; set aside. 3. Combine flour panko, salt, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and basil in another shallow bowl; set aside. 4. Bread the shrimp by first coating each shrimp with the breading mixture. Dip breaded shrimp into the egg and milk mixture, and then back in the breading. Arrange the coated shrimp on a plate and pop them into the fridge for at least 20 minutes. This step will help the breading to stick on the shrimp when they are frying. 5. Heat oil in deep fryer to 350 degrees F. Use amount of oil required by your fryer. 6. When oil is hot, fry shrimp for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on rack or paper towels. 7. When all shrimp are fried, drop the shrimp into a large bowl Spoon about 1/4 cup of sauce over shrimp and stir to gently coat. CAN ALSO BE USED ON BOILED SHRIMP!!!

AIR FRYER BANG BANG SHRIMP

Air Fryer Bang Bang Shrimp image

This is my take on a popular dish from a restaurant chain. My version is made in an air fryer instead of being deep-fried. The end result was perfectly crispy sweet and spicy shrimp.

  • Prepare the slaw and sauce: Place the cabbage in a medium mixing bowl. In a separate large bowl, stir together the Greek yogurt, oil, garlic, and salt. Scoop about half of the yogurt mixture into the bowl with the cabbage. To the cabbage bowl, add the lime zest and juice. Stir to combine, then refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • To the bowl with the remaining Greek yogurt mixture, add the Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and vinegar. Set aside.
  • Prepare the shrimp: Pat the shrimp dry and place in a large ziptop bag. Sprinkle in the cornstarch, then seal the bag and toss the shrimp to coat.
  • In a high-sided skillet, wok, or dutch oven, heat the 3 tablespoons oil over medium high. Once the oil is hot and shimmering, carefully add the shrimp, shaking off as much excess cornstarch as you can. Sauté, stirring almost constantly, until the shrimp is cooked through and the cornstarch is no longer white, about 4 minutes. Do not overcook, and if the shrimp looks dry, drizzle in extra oil as needed. Transfer the shrimp to the bowl with the Greek yogurt/Thai chili mixture and toss to coat the shrimp in the sauce.
