BALSAMIC PORK CHOPS WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS

Balsamic Pork Chops with Caramelized Onions image

Easy and delicious recipe for balsamic pork chops. The sesame oil adds a different flavor, but can be swapped for olive oil. I've made it many times with and without the onions.

Provided by Ben

Categories     Main Dish Recipes     Pork     Pork Chop Recipes     Pan Fried

Time 45m

Yield 2

Number Of Ingredients 8

½ sweet onion, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 (5 ounce) center-cut pork chops
salt and ground black pepper to taste
¼ teaspoon chili powder, or to taste
1 tablespoon sesame oil
2 small cloves garlic, finely chopped
½ cup balsamic vinegar

Steps:

  • Toss onion slices and olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat until onions are evenly coated with oil. Cook and stir until onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to low and continue cooking and stirring until onion is very tender and dark brown, about 25 to 35 more minutes.
  • While the onions are cooking, rub both sides of the pork chops with salt, pepper, and chili powder.
  • Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over high heat. Add pork chops to the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Reduce heat to medium and season chops with more salt, pepper, and chili powder, if desired. Add garlic to the pan and pour in 1/2 of the balsamic vinegar to cover the bottom of the pan. Cook for 5 minutes, flip the chops, and add the remaining balsamic vinegar. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, flip, and cook another 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Place caramelized onions in the pan with the pork chops. Cook, flipping chops at least 1 more time, until no longer pink in the center, 3 to 5 minutes longer. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).

BALSAMIC PORK CHOPS

Balsamic Pork Chops image

Super simple, yet serious flavour!! The Balsamic sauce is tangy and sweet, and this will go fantastically with any protein - chicken, beef, pork and even lamb! The flavour of this syrup is quite intense so you do not need much for each serving - just spoon a couple of tablespoons over each pork. While the total cook time may seem long, it is mostly hands off time because the balsamic syrup doesn't need to be watched over as it reduces.

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 9

4 pork chops (, 2.5cm / 1" thick, about 200-250g/7-8oz each (excluding any bone) (Note 1))
1 - 2 tbsp olive oil
1 garlic clove (, minced)
1 onion (, finely sliced (~1 cup of onion, brown, yellow or white))
1 cup balsamic vinegar
1/3 cup / 60g brown sugar ((Note 2))
Salt and pepper
Crumbled goats cheese or feta
Fresh parsley or thyme

Steps:

  • Sprinkle both sides of pork with salt and pepper.
  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Cook the first side for 4 minutes until it has a lovely dark gold crust, then turn and cook the other side for 3 minutes. (Note 3)
  • Transfer to a plate, cover loosely with foil.
  • Add 1 tbsp oil to the skillet, still on medium high. Add garlic and onion, cook until translucent - around 3 minutes.
  • Add balsamic vinegar and brown sugar. Stir until the sugar is melted. When it comes to a simmer, adjust the heat so it is bubbling gently, not rapidly.
  • Simmer for ~5 to 8 minutes or until it reduces by almost half and is a THIN syrup. Then add the pork back into the skillet, including all the juices on the plate. Simmer, turning pork to reheat, for 2 minutes or until the the sauce becomes syrupy (to your taste) and pork is reheated. (Note 4)
  • Serve, garnished with crumbled goats cheese if desired.

GRILLED PORK CHOPS WITH BALSAMIC CARAMELIZED PEARS

Grilled Pork Chops with Balsamic Caramelized Pears image

The recipe transforms thin supermarket pork chops into an unforgettable-juicy-tender-flavor-packed-lip-smacking pork experience. A combination of brining, marinating, and saucing. All can be prepared ahead except for the last 5 minutes of grilling.

Provided by OSORKIN

Categories     Main Dish Recipes     Pork     Pork Chop Recipes

Time 2h6m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 ½ quarts water
5 tablespoons kosher salt
2 tablespoons white sugar
6 pork loin chops, 1/2 inch thick
½ cup olive oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, minced
½ cup balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 Vidalia onions, each cut into 8 wedges
2 pears, cored and each cut into 8 wedges
1 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, stir together the water, kosher salt, and sugar. Add pork chops to this brine, and let them soak for no more than one hour. Drain and discard the brine. Pat pork chops dry with paper towels.
  • In a shallow dish, stir together the olive oil, garlic, and rosemary. Place pork chops in the dish, and turn to coat. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 or 2 hours.
  • Pour the balsamic vinegar into a small saucepan. Bring to a boil, and cook until reduced by 1/2, about 10 minutes. When the vinegar cools, it should be the consistency of syrup.
  • Melt butter with olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high or high heat. Add the onions and pears, and quickly brown being careful to keep the wedges intact. Once the onions and pears are browned, reduce heat to low, and cook for about 7 minutes, or until tender. Stir in the reduced vinegar and salt. The recipe can be prepared up to this point several hours before grilling.
  • Preheat the grill for medium-high heat.
  • Warm pears on a cool section of the grill (in the skillet), while placing the pork chops over the hot part. Cook pork for about 3 minutes per side, or to desired doneness. Remove to a serving plate, cover with aluminum foil and let rest for a few minutes. Uncover, top with the pear onion sauce, and serve.

BALSAMIC GLAZED PORK WITH CARAMELIZED ONIONS

Balsamic Glazed Pork With Caramelized Onions image

My market had a sale on boneless, country style pork ribs so I stocked up. Not wanting to baste with a tradiditional tomato barbeque sauce, I became bold and made this up as I went along. The end result was very tasty indeed. You could use boneless chicken breasts or boneless pork chops in place of the ribs.

Provided by yooper

Categories     Pork

Time 45m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 -1 1/2 lb country-style boneless pork ribs
3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons margarine, divided
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 large onion, chopped into medium dice
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon dried garlic powder (see Note)
salt and pepper
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 cup white wine

Steps:

  • *Note-You could use chopped fresh garlic in place of the dried powder, but I wouldn't add it until the the last ten minutes or so.
  • I'm thinking the garlic may burn if you add it at the beginning and would ruin the dish.
  • Combine all dry spice ingredients.
  • Sprinkle on both sides of the ribs, rub into meat surface.
  • Let stand at room temperature for 1/2 hour.
  • In a large skillet, add the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of the butter over medium-high heat.
  • When the butter has melted, add the ribs.
  • Cook for approximately 5 minutes, and then turn over and sear the other side.
  • You want to get a nice crust from the spices on each side.
  • Add the chopped onion.
  • Cook for approximately five more minutes, stirring the onions until they become tender and are starting to brown.
  • Pour the balsamic vinegar over everything in the skillet.
  • Turn the heat down to medium-low and cover the skillet.
  • Cook for approximately 10-15 minutes more, depending on the thickness of the meat.
  • Occasionally stir the onions and turn the meat.
  • You want to really caramelize the onions, until they become slightly charred.
  • They take on a lovely, sweet and smoky flavor.
  • Test your meat to ensure that it's cooked through by inserting a meat thermometer in the center.
  • Temperature should be 170 degrees.
  • Remove the pork and onions to a platter.
  • Turn the heat up to medium-high.
  • Add the wine to the skillet.
  • Stir up the browned bits in the skillet with a wooden spoon.
  • Cook until the wine is reduced by about half, five minutes.
  • Take the skillet off of the heat, and add 1 tablespoon butter.
  • Stir the sauce until the butter has melted, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Pour the sauce over the pork ribs and onions.

SAUTéED PORK CHOPS WITH BALSAMIC ONIONS

Sautéed Pork Chops with Balsamic Onions image

Cooking onions in balsamic vinegar is a shortcut of sorts, helping them develop a deep, caramelized flavor that usually takes lots of time. It also offers a tangy counterpoint to the sweetness. Like this recipe? Check out more easy 5-ingredient dinners.

Provided by Chris Schlesinger

Categories     Main Course

Yield four.

Number Of Ingredients 7

3 Tbs. olive oil; more if needed
1 large red onion (about 13 oz.), cut in half and thinly sliced crosswise
4 bone-in center-cut pork chops (1 to 1-1/2 inches thick)
1 Tbs. kosher salt; more to taste
2 heaping tsp. coarsely ground black pepper; more to taste
1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
1 Tbs. fresh thyme leaves

Steps:

  • Heat 1 Tbs. of the oil in a very large sauté pan over medium heat. Add the onions and cook, stirring frequently, until soft and caramelized, about 20 minutes (if the onions start to burn, reduce the heat to medium low). Transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside.
  • Pat the pork chops dry with paper towels and rub both sides with the salt and pepper. Return the pan to the burner, add the remaining 2 Tbs. olive oil, and increase the heat to medium high until the oil is hot but not smoking. (If you don't have a sauté pan large enough to fit the chops without crowding, use two smaller sauté pans, heat 1-1/2 Tbs. olive oil in each, and cook two chops in each.) Cook the chops until well browned on one side, 3 to 5 minutes. Turn and cook the other side until the meat is done, 2 to 4 minutes. (If they start to burn, turn down the heat slightly.) To check for doneness, make a small cut near the bone and look inside-the pork should have a hint of pinkness. If it's still red, cook for another minute and check again. Transfer the chops to a plate, tent with foil, and let rest for 3 to 5 minutes before serving.
  • Meanwhile, put the pan back over medium heat and add the balsamic vinegar and caramelized onions (if you used two pans for the chops, use just one for the onions). Simmer, scraping the pan with a wooden spoon, until the vinegar is reduced enough to just coat the onions, 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the thyme and season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately with the pork chops.
