PHYLLO BAKE



Phyllo Bake image

A delicious, buttery and flaky bake

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound spicy Italian chicken sausage (removed from casings)
5 eggs
1/2 cup kalamata olives (sliced)
1/2 cup oil packed sun dried tomatoes*
10 ounce package frozen spinach (thawed and drained)
1/2 cup greek yogurt
2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil (or 2 teaspoons dried)
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
2 1/2 cups shredded Havarti cheese
1/2 cup cheddar cheese (shredded)
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
40 phyllo pastry sheets (thawed)
1/2 cup canola oil or butter (melted)

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon olive oil over medium heat. Brown sausage until cooked through and no longer pink. Set aside.
  • In a medium bowl, beat 5 eggs well, add the 1/2 cup of greek yogurt. Mix well. Mix in the basil, thyme, black pepper, crushed red pepper flakes and salt. Add the sausage and spinach and mix until combined.
  • Unroll phyllo sheets and cover with a damp paper towel. Place one sheet in a 13×9 glass baking dish. Brush with some of the canola oil. Add eight additional phyllo sheets, brushing each with canola oil. Spread half of the cheddar cheese over the top of the dough. Dollop half of the spinach sausage mixture over the cheese and then top with half the Havarti cheese and half of the olives. Layer and brush with butter nine more sheets phyllo dough. Spread with the rest of the cheddar cheese and then the rest of the spinach sausage mixture. Top with the remaining Havarti Cheese and olives. Layer and brush with canola oil eight more sheets phyllo dough. Top with mozzarella cheese . Layer remaining phyllo sheets on top, brushing each with canola oil.
  • Bake at 350 for hour to an hour and 15 minutes.

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
Italian dressing
1 tablespoon Greek seasoning, or to taste
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon white cooking wine
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon garlic salt
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
salt to taste
2 (4 ounce) cans whole green chili peppers, drained, and sliced lengthwise
4 ounces sliced Havarti cheese with dill

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Marinate chicken in Italian dressing and Greek seasoning in a bowl, at least 30 minutes.
  • Place chicken in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle top with additional Greek seasoning.
  • Bake in preheated oven until no longer pink in center and juices run clear, about 25 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium-high heat until bubbling. Pour in wine, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic salt; bring to a boil. Stir in mushrooms; reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook until mushrooms are tender, about 3 to 5 minutes. Seasoning mixture with salt.
  • Arrange green chili peppers lengthwise and Havarti cheese on top of chicken. Return to the oven and bake until cheese has melted, about 5 minutes. Top chicken with mushrooms and pan juices.

The creamy, nutty flavor of Havarti, and the addition of fresh dill, adds a new dimension to traditional mac and cheese. This easy-from-scratch recipe is ready in just 30 minutes.

2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon grated or very finely chopped onion
2 cups milk
2 cups shredded Havarti cheese (8 oz)
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill weed

Steps:

  • Cook and drain macaroni as directed on package.
  • In 10-inch skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Using whisk, stir in flour, salt and onion. Cook 2 to 3 minutes, or until mixture smells nutty and is lightly golden, stirring constantly with whisk.
  • Add milk. Continue to beat with whisk, scraping bottom of skillet until mixture heats to boiling. Mixture will thicken. Remove from heat; add cheese and dill. Stir with whisk until smooth. Stir in drained macaroni.
  • Serve with additional dill weed if desired.

1 (8 ounce) can refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
2 granny smith apples

Steps:

  • Place 1/2 the rolls on a cookie sheet and forming a rectangle shape.
  • Place 2 layers of cheese on top of the rectangle.
  • Make a rectangle out of the remaining rolls and layer on top of the cheese.
  • Seal the edges together.
  • Bake @ 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve with sliced granny smith apples.

1/2 cup dried parsley flakes
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
2 blocks (8 ounces each) dill Havarti cheese
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten
Coarse salt, optional
Assorted crackers and fresh fruit

Steps:

  • In a shallow bowl, combine the parsley, thyme, rosemary and oregano. Spread mustard over cheese blocks; roll in herbs to coat. , On a lightly floured surface, roll pastry to about 13 in. long (or long enough to fit cheese blocks end to end). Place cheese on pastry and fold pastry around cheese; trim excess dough. Pinch edges to seal. Place seam side down on an ungreased baking sheet. , Brush pastry with egg. With floured cutters, cut decorative shapes from dough scraps if desired; arrange over the top and brush with egg. Sprinkle with salt if desired. Bake at 375° for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm with crackers and fruit.

4 tsp butter
4 Tbsp half and half
4 large eggs
salt and pepper, to taste
4 Tbsp grated havarti cheese (heaping)
1/2 tsp dill

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • 2. Place 1 teaspoon butter into 4 ovenproof ramekin dishes, place in oven to melt.
  • 3. Remove from oven and add 1 tablespoon half-and-half and crack 1 egg into each dish. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • 4. 4. Cover each egg with 1 tablespoon Havarti. Sprinkle dill evenly over each. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until egg white is done with yolk softly cooked.

1 lb havarti cheese in a block, from the deli counter
1 pkg frozen puff pastry, pepperidge farm
1/2 c honey
1/4 c slivered almonds

Steps:

  • 1. Defrost puff pastry sheet. Wrap havarti cheese in puff pastry sheet, place seam down on baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • 2. Bake at 325 for 25-30 minutes or until puff pastry is golden brown. Remove and place on serving platter.
  • 3. Drizzle honey, coating entire puff pastry. Sprinkle slivered almonds on top.
  • 4. To serve I place crackers and apple slices around the puff pastry. Put knife along the side for cutting off wedges or slices of baked havarti.
