1 loaf French bread (20 inches)
2/3 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup chopped green onion
4 teaspoons prepared mustard
5 slices processed swiss cheese (I used regular Swiss cheese, not processed)
5 slices bacon (I used half a pound of bacon)

Steps:

  • Cut bread into 1-inch thick slices, leaving slices attached at bottom.
  • In a bowl, combine the butter, onions, and mustard; spread on both sides of each slice of bread.
  • Cut each cheese slice diagonally into four triangles; place between the slices of bread.
  • Cut bacon in half widthwise and then lengthwise; drape a piece over each slice.
  • Place the loaf on a double thickness of heavy-duty foil.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until bacon is crisp.

I stumbled across this recipe while looking for something different to take to a brunch. Boy, am I glad I did! Everyone asked for the recipe and was surprised it called for only five ingredients. It's the perfect treat to bake for an informal get-together. -Traci Collins, Cheyenne, Wyoming

12 bacon strips, diced
1 loaf (1 pound) frozen bread dough, thawed
2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
1 cup shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1 envelope (1 ounce) ranch salad dressing mix

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, cook bacon over medium heat for 5 minutes or until partially cooked; drain on paper towels. Roll out dough to 1/2-in. thickness; brush with 1 tablespoon of oil. Cut into 1-in. pieces; place in a large bowl. Add the bacon, cheese, dressing mix and remaining oil; toss to coat., Arrange pieces in a 9x5-in. oval on a parchment-lined baking sheet, layering as needed. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled., Bake at 350° for 40 minutes. Cover with foil; bake 15 minutes longer or until golden brown.

1 loaf (18-20 inches) French bread
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
3/4 teaspoon celery seed
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
3 tablespoons dried parsley flakes

Steps:

  • Cut bread in half crosswise. Make diagonal cuts, 1 in. apart, through bread but not through bottom. Combine all remaining ingredients. Spread half the butter mixture between bread slices. Spread remaining mixture over top and sides of bread., Place bread on double thickness of foil; cover loosely with more foil. Bake at 425° for 20-30 minutes. For last 5 minutes, remove foil covering bread to allow it to brown.

Steps:

  • 1. in a bowl, combine the butter, onions, and mustard. Spread on both sides of each slice of bread.
  • 2. Place Swiss cheese between the slices of bread. Cut bacon in half widthwise and then lengthwise; drape a piece over each slice.
  • 3. Place loaf on a double thickness of heavy duty foil. Bake at 400° for 20 to 25 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Serves 10.

1 egg
1/4 cup evaporated milk
6 ounces shredded swiss cheese, divided
1 cup crumbled cooked bacon, divided
1/2 cup soft breadcrumbs
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 1/2 lbs ground beef

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the egg, milk, 1 cup swiss cheese, 3/4 cup bacon, bread crumbs, garlic powder and onion powder.
  • Crumble beef over mixture and mix well.
  • Shape into a loaf in a greased 11 inch X 7 inch X 2 inch baking dish.
  • Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 1 hour or until meat is no longer pink and a meat thermometer reads 160°.
  • Drain.
  • Sprinkle with remaining cheese and bacon.
  • Bake 3-5 minutes longer or until cheese is melted.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before slicing.

CANADIAN BACON AND SWISS BREAD

This makes a good game day snack or a light lunch served with fruit or a salad but my favorite way to serve is for breakfast, it's full of flavor.

1 large loaf crusty french bread
8-12 slice swiss cheese
8-12 slice canadian bacon
3 Tbsp grated onion
2 tsp dijon mustard
3 tsp lemon juice
2 tsp poppy seeds
1 tsp beau monde seasoning
4 Tbsp butter

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Slice Bread into about 1 inch sections without slicing through the bottom, keep that intact.
  • 2. Melt butter and combine all ingredients except for the cheese and bacon.
  • 3. Cut swiss cheese and canadian bacon into halves.
  • 4. Using a pastry brush, brush melted butter mixture onto/or into both sides of sliced bread sections. Insert 1 piece of swiss cheese and 1 piece of bacon in each groove. Any leftover butter mixture can be brushed on the top of the bread.
  • 5. Place loaf onto prepared baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until cheese is melted and somewhat bubbly.
  • 6. When removed from the oven you may pull it apart or finish slicing through to the bottom of the bread on a cutting board.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 rounded teaspoons prepared Dijon style mustard
1 1/2 cups shredded Swiss cheese, available on dairy aisle
3 scallions, chopped
1/2 cup smoked almonds, coarsely chopped
Baby carrots and a selection of spiced flat breads, cocktail sized pumpernickel or rye breads, or sliced whole grain baguettes, for dipping

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Brown bacon in nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Drain crisp bacon bits on paper towels.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, mayonnaise, Dijon, Swiss and scallions with cooked bacon. Transfer to a shallow small casserole or baking dish and bake until golden and bubbly at edges, 15 to 18 minutes. Top with chopped smoked almonds. Place dip on a platter and surround warm casserole with breads and carrots for dipping.

1 pound bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
12 large eggs
2 cups 2% milk
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon pepper
Minced chives, optional

Steps:

  • In a greased 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker, layer potatoes, bacon and cheese. In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, seasoned salt and pepper; pour over top. Cook, covered, on low until eggs are set, 4-5 hours. Turn off slow cooker. Remove crock insert to a wire rack; let stand, uncovered, 30 minutes before serving. Garnish with minced chives, if desired.
