- Add uncooked rotini or elbow macaroni pasta and water into a microwave safe mug or cup.
- Microwave noodles on high for 3-4 minutes until they are soft and tender.
- The water may boil over, and you might need to add more water once the cooking is complete, and heat once again until pasta is al dente or to your liking.
- Stir in milk (or alternatively heavy whipping cream) and shredded cheddar cheese and microwave again for 30 seconds to melt cheese properly.

- Spray the inside of the mug with nonstick cooking spray to help limit the contents that are likely to run over. Or you can place the mug on a small plate to prevent a mess in the microwave. I do both.
- Put the macaroni, water, and butter in the mug. Place it in the microwave for 2 minutes on full power. Remove and stir.
- If there is still water in the mug, microwave in in 30-second to 2-minute intervals until all of the water is absorbed by the noodles. (See notes below.)
- Add the milk and shredded cheese. Stir and return it to the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. If the cheese hasn't melted, repeat this step.

- Line a large mug with a few sheets of paper towel. Lay the bacon in the mug, cover with another piece of paper towel and microwave on high power for 1 minute. Using the edges of the paper towel, lift the bacon from the mug and set aside.
