ITALIAN TEETHING COOKIES

Italian Teething Cookies image

In Italian, these cookies are called Ossi Dei Morti or bones of the dead. They are hard cookies, but they are used for teething babies. Adults like to dip them in cappuccino.

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     European     Italian

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 4

3 eggs
2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, whip the eggs and sugar with an electric mixer at high speed. Mix for 6 to 10 minutes, until mixture is thick and pale. Combine the flour and baking powder together. Gradually add the flour to the egg mixture. If the dough is still sticky, you can add more flour.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough into long log shapes, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter, and as long as your cookie sheet. Cover with a clean towel, and let them sit out overnight.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Remove the rolls of dough from the cookie sheets and place them on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 1 1/2 inch long pieces. And return them to the baking sheets.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven, until they are a light brown. Remove from baking sheets to cool on wire racks. These cookies can be stored for a month in an airtight container.

HEALTHY HOMEMADE TEETHING BISCUITS

Healthy Homemade Teething Biscuits image

If you're the parent of a teething baby or toddler, these healthy homemade teething biscuits are your new best friend.

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 cup oats, dry
1 medium banana
2 tablespoon coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  • In a blender (or food processor), blend the oats into a very fine powder. (A blender will work best for this job, but a food processor will also work)
  • Add banana and coconut oil (and any vanilla or spices you may be using) to the blender and puree until mixture comes together in a dough.
  • If the dough is very sticky to handle, you can pat a little flour (gluten free or wheat flour) onto the exterior of the ball to make it easier to handle. If the dough is too dry, you can add a little additional coconut oil.
  • Divide the dough into 12 balls or sections. Pat out each ball into a little baton about 4 inches long and 1 to 1 1/2 inches wide, and about 1/4 inch thick. Round the edges of each baton with your fingers so there are no sharp edges.
  • (Alternatively, you can roll the entire dough ball out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick and slice it into 12 rectangles. Round the corners of each rectangle and make the shapes roughly even. I've found that shaping each baton works better for me than rolling and slicing, but you can do what works best for you).
  • Place evenly on a baking sheet so that none of the batons are touching. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Flip and cook another 5-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers are set but not too crunchy.
  • Allow to cool completely. Store in an airtight container at room temperature, in the refrigerator, or the freezer.

BABY-APPROVED TEETHING BISCUITS

Baby-Approved Teething Biscuits image

Babies love these. You could make shapes if you want, but I like to keep in mind that I'm cooking for a baby who is going to make a gooey mess out of these. Perfection is completely unnecessary.

BABY TEETHING COOKIES

Baby Teething Cookies image

I clipped this from the newspaper to pass along to my daughter for my teething grandson. I thought I'd post it here for other "teethers". Sounds fairly healthy. Prep time does not include refrigeration time. Cooking time does not include the "oven cooling".

Categories     Bar Cookie

Time 20m

Yield 6 dozen cookies

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1/2 cup wheat germ
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch salt
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup oil
1 egg
1/2 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed

Steps:

  • Combine flour, dry milk, wheat germ, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a large bowl.
  • Beat sugar and oil together in another bowl. Beat in the egg and orange juice at high speed, beating for 1 minute.
  • Slowly add the flour mixture to make a stiff dough.
  • Refrigerate for 1-2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375*. When ready to bake, place dough on a lightly greased cookie sheet and flatten. Roll the dough out to within 1" of the pan's edge.
  • Cut the dough into 2" x 3/4" bars (no need to separate).
  • Bake for 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Remove from oven, and re-cut along the same bar lines.
  • Return to the oven, turn off the heat, and let sit in the oven until the oven is cool (this will crisp up the cookies).

BABY TEETHING CRACKERS

Baby Teething Crackers image

Baby Teething Crackers are healthy homemade teething biscuits for a nutritious baby-led weaning snack or baby teething cracker to help soothe teething pain. Plus, these baby crackers are gluten-free, sugar-free, and egg-free, suitable for kids with food allergies.

Provided by Carine Claudepierre

Categories     Snack

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup Oat Flour
1/3 cup + 2 tablespoons Rice Flour (2/3 cup tapioca flour or corn flour)
1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder (- optional, skip if desired)
1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
2 tablespoons Coconut Oil (melted)
1 teaspoon Vanilla Essence
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set it aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk all the dry ingredients: oat flour, rice flour, baking powder, and cinnamon (if your baby is over 12 months old).
  • Make a well in the center of the flours and add melted coconut oil, unsweetened applesauce, and vanilla essence.
  • Stir with a spatula at first, then knead by hand until the dough comes together. This baby cracker dough is tough, and that's normal. You want to make hard crackers to soothe the teething pain. If the dough is too dry, add 1-2 tablespoons of water to bring the dough into a ball.
  • Roll the dough between two pieces of parchment paper. Cut it into small long rectangles - see my pictures above for tips.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes. The longer you bake the crackers, the harder they are.
  • Cool on a cooling rack and store in a cookie box for up to 2 weeks in the pantry.

  • Teething biscuits from Mama Bear Morabito. This recipe brings in flour to the mix alongside oatmeal, and banana and cinnamon for flavour. They are really simple to make and cut into different shapes depending on what cutters or knife skills you have.
  • 3 ingredient teething biscuits from Becky’s Best Bites. I love 3 ingredient recipes! (I do have a cookbook full of them, after all) So this one requires a food processor for best results, as the dough looks to be quite dense to begin with.
  • Healthy baby rusks from My Kids Lick the Bowl. Now this recipe uses a combination of oats and sweet potato and adds tea to the mix. From what I have been reading, the compounds found in tea may interfere with iron absorption.
  • Sweet potato oat biscuits from Hanky’s Happy Home. Another sweet potato and oats combination, this time with a bit of baking powder added, as well as cinnamon and vanilla for flavour.
  • Homemade teething bread. Now this one doesn’t have a photo here, but click the link to see step by step instructions and why I call it teething bread instead of a biscuit.
  • Homemade teething biscuits by Sexy Moxie Mama. If you’ve read my 5 alternatives to baby cereal post, you know I’m not a huge fan of instant cereal for babies.
  • Teething biscuits from My Little Food Critic. Another banana, oats and coconut oil recipe, this time adding ginger and cinnamon for flavour. Not much to say about this one.
  • Apple teething biscuits by The Ox Mama. Another recipe that uses applesauce (scroll back up to read my note on how to easily make this at home). Despite her saying these do not contain sugar, she adds maple syrup, which is also a type of free sugar.
  • 3 ingredients teething biscuits from SuperHealthyKids.com. If you want to stick to minimum ingredients that you can simply throw in a blender, then this recipe has you covered.
  • Quinoa teething crackers from CradleRockingMama.com. If by any chance you jumped on the quinoa superfood bandwagon and find yourself with some quinoa flour and flakes just lying around your pantry, then have a go at these biscuits.
