SOFT PUMPKIN DOG TREATS

Soft Pumpkin Dog Treats image

If you'd like to make this recipe in bulk, you can also store the cookies in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. I like this option because it means that I can still provide homemade treats for my dogs without having to take the time to make them every few days.

Provided by Samantha Randall

Categories     Desserts

Time 2h15m

Number Of Ingredients 4

1 cup pumpkin puree
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup milk
3 cups old fashioned oats

Steps:

  • Beat the pumpkin, peanut butter and milk on medium speed until well blended. Gradually add 2.5 cups of old fashioned oats while mixing on low speed.
  • Roll the mixture into 1″-2″ balls depending on your dog's size. You can also use a small cookie scoop. Coat each ball with oats and place them on a plate or cookie sheet covered with wax paper. Refrigerate the dog treats until firm (about 2 hours).
  • Once they've hardened, you can feed them to your pup. Remember that these treats will add a few extra calories to Fido's diet, so only feed him 1 or 2 treats per day. You can store leftover treats in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

SOFT LIVER DOG TREATS

Soft Liver Dog Treats image

I found this in various places on the internet. I used the livers from 12 fryer-sized rabbits which I guessed to be about 1.5 lbs. I don't know if rabbit liver is milder than beef or what, but they aren't very smelly. I like more of a playdoh consistency; this is more like a biscuit. My dogs aren't good critics - they'll work for kibble and I'm not sure they even taste treats.

Provided by sheepdoc

Categories     < 4 Hours

Time 1h10m

Yield 1 1/2 pounds

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 1/2 lbs liver (any kind, beef, chicken, rabbit)
6 eggs
1 1/2 cups cornmeal
1 teaspoon garlic powder (not fresh)
2 teaspoons salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 9 x 13 or jelly roll pan with foil or parchment paper and spray with pan. This stuff really sticks to the pan.
  • Pulverize livers in blender.
  • Add eggs and mix.
  • Add cornmeal, garlic and salt and mix.
  • Pour into pan and bake for 30 minutes.
  • If harder treats are desired, cut in to desired size and return to oven for 20 minutes.
  • Store in the refrigerator up to a week or freeze.
