AUNT JANE'S BROWN BREAD
This is an old standby on my Thanksgiving table and on my mother's. It was her Aunt Jane who started it. I like to eat it plain, sliced thin, but I know others claim it's delicious with a little bit of butter or cream cheese on top.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Butter and flour two 9x5-inch bread pans.
- In a small bowl, combine milk, sugar and molasses.
- Mix together whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Add to milk mixture and mix well.
- Pour mixture into bread pans. Bake in preheated oven until a tester inserted in the centers comes out clean, about 45 minutes. Let bread cool in pans for 10 minutes, then invert on wire rack and allow to cool completely.

AUNT NAOMI'S EASTER HAM
Martha's friend Jane Heller makes her distinctive Easter dinner of Smithfield ham baked with pineapple rings and cherries, sweet potatoes with marshmallow topping, and her famous cherry Jell-O mold. Her special ham recipe comes from her Aunt Naomi.

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Using a sharp knife, score surface of ham crosswise and lengthwise, forming a crosshatch pattern about 1/4 inch deep and 1 inch apart. Place a clove in the center of each square.
- Place ham, fat side up, in a double-layer disposable aluminum roasting pan. Pat brown sugar onto the surface of the ham (expect some sugar to fall into the roasting pan). Transfer to oven, and bake until brown sugar just begins to melt, about 30 minutes.
- Remove ham from oven. Pour Coca-Cola over ham, letting it mix with the melted sugar in the bottom of the pan. Baste ham with sugar mixture. Return ham to oven, and bake for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, combine 1 cup reserved pineapple juice and the wine in a small bowl. Baste ham with pineapple mixture. Bake ham for a total of 16 minutes per pound, basting every 20 minutes with the juices in the bottom of the pan. During the last 20 minutes of baking time, decorate ham with pineapple rings. Use two to three toothpicks to hold each ring in place. Center a cherry in the center of each ring, and adhere with a toothpick.
- Transfer ham to a platter, removing all toothpicks. Garnish ham with fresh bay leaves. Serve.
AUNT JANE'S SWEET POTATOES
Steps:
- After mashing potatoes, add all above ingredients
- Put in prepared casserole
- Add topping: 1/2 stick butter, 1 C brown sugar 1/3 C flour; 1 C chopped pecans
AUNT DORA'S COLOMBIAN CHICKEN WITH POTATOES
I learned this recipe when visiting my Colombian family members in Houston, Texas. The sauce that the chicken cooks in is chock full of flavor. Cumin, curry, black pepper, turmeric, pimenton (paprika), and seasoning salt make the chicken's sauce tasty enough to lick your plate! Serve with rice.

- Heat olive oil in a deep skillet over high heat. Add onions and garlic; cook and stir until onions are softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in red and green bell peppers; cook and stir until peppers are firm but tender, 5 to 7 minutes. Mix in beef broth, cumin, curry powder, seasoning salt, garlic powder, turmeric, pimenton, oregano, and pepper.
- Submerge chicken thighs, skin side down, half way into broth mixture; stir to coat chicken. Bring to a boil; cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer until chicken is no longer pink, about 40 minutes.
- Stir potatoes into the chicken mixture until mostly submerged; check that chicken thighs are still skin side down. Bring to a boil; cover. Reduce heat; simmer until potatoes are soft and chicken is cooked through, about 1 hour.

Paula has 2 tablespoons of Jane's Krazy Mixed-Up salt or seasoned salt listed on her recipe, I would definitely reduce the amount to 1-2 teaspoons, also I would add in 1 teaspoon ground black pepper --- serve this slightly warm or at room temperature

- In a large pot cook the potatoes with skin on in boiling water until just fork-tender (about 12-15 minutes).
- Cut into cubes.
