ASIAN MARINATED PORK CHOPS

Asian Marinated Pork Chops image

This is one of my favorite marinades to use for grilled pork chops. I usually just throw ingredients as I see fit, so the measurements are estimates. The roasted red chili paste can be found in the Asian section of your grocery store.

Provided by itsjustaphase

Categories     World Cuisine Recipes     Asian

Time 55m

Yield 6

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup soy sauce
½ cup brown sugar
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 tablespoon roasted red chili paste
6 (1-inch thick) pork chops

Steps:

  • Place the soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, cumin, and chili paste in a large, heavy plastic zipper bag. Smush the bag a few times with your fingers to mix all the ingredients thoroughly and dissolve the brown sugar; place the pork chops into the marinade, and seal the bag. Allow to marinate for 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat, and lightly oil the grate.
  • Remove the pork chops from the marinade, and discard the marinade. Shake off excess marinade, and grill the pork chops until browned, the meat is no longer pink inside, and the chops show good grill marks, 5 to 7 minutes per side. An instant-read meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of a chop should read at least 145 degrees F (63 degrees C).

CHAR SIU (CHINESE BBQ PORK)

Char Siu (Chinese BBQ Pork) image

"Char siu" literally means "fork roast" - "char" being "fork" (both noun and verb) and "siu" being "roast" - after the traditional cooking method for the dish: long strips of seasoned boneless pork are skewered with long forks and placed in a covered oven or over a fire. This is best cooked over charcoal, but it's important to cook with indirect heat.

2 pork tenderloins

¼ cup Chinese rice wine
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
½ teaspoon red food coloring

Steps:

  • Cut pork with the grain into strips 1 1/2- to 2-inches long; put into a large resealable plastic bag.
  • Stir soy sauce, honey, ketchup, brown sugar, rice wine, hoisin sauce, red food coloring or red bean curd (see Cook's Note), and Chinese five-spice powder together in a saucepan over medium-low heat. ASIAN PORK MARINADE FOR KEBABS

Asian Pork Marinade for Kebabs image

This is an Asian style marinade for pork chunks that happens to be sugar free. Skewer the pork chunks to either broil or bbq. Serve with white or brown rice and with an Asian-flavored cabbage salad with rice vinegar and ginger.

Provided by KWB5015

Categories     Pork

Time 36m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

1/4 cup hoisin sauce
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/2 lemon, juice of (or of one whole lime)
3 tablespoons fresh ginger, grated or minced
1/4 cup onion, grated or minced
3 garlic cloves, grated or minced
4 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
3 cardamom pods, crushed
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
2 lbs pork, cut into chunks

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients.
  • Add pork and toss to coat. Refrigerate 1-3 hours.
  • Skewer pork and bbq or broil until done--doneness will depend on the size of the pork chunks and how far from your heat source you are. I usually do 1-1 1/2" chunks and broil 3-4" from the heat for 5-6 minutes per side.

EASY PORK SKEWERS (GRILLED, OVEN OR GRIDDLE)

Easy Pork Skewers (Grilled, Oven or Griddle) image

Tender and juicy pork skewers flavored by delicious pork marinade and cooked to perfection. Grilled, oven baked or prepared on the griddle.

Provided by CraftBeering

Categories     Cooking Tips and How Tos

Time 40m

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 lbs of boneless pork shoulder*
1 large onion
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup flavorful beer (craft pale ale, German dunkel, etc)
7-8 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves picked
3 cloves garlic
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • PREPARE THE PORK SKEWERS1. Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes. 2. Make a marinade by mixing the marinade ingredients. In a non-reactive container or freezer bag combine the cubed pork with the marinade. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to overnight. Bring to room temperature before cooking. 3. Cut the onion into thick chunks similar in size to the size of the pork cubes. Thread the skewers** by alternating onions and pork. GRILLED PORK SKEWERS1. Heat your gas grill to medium-hot and lightly brush with oil before you place the skewers on. For charcoal grill wait until the coals turn white. Alternatively heat up a lightly greased grill pan or a griddle over medium-high heat. 2. Place the skewers onto the hot surface. Grill on all sides until the pork cubes are tender and nicely charred. Be patient before you lift them to turn them for the very first time - initially the meat is likely to stick to the surface and will gradually release as it begins to char. OVEN BAKED PORK SKEWERS1. Preheat your oven to 375 - 400 F depending on how strong you know it to be. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the skewers on top about 1 inch apart. 2. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the pork is tender, turning once or twice. Turn on the broiler and broil the skewers for the last couple of minutes for a nicely browned finish. Turn frequently to make sure the surface doesn't burn. Serve the skewers garnished with fresh herbs and charred lemon - a little citrusy squeeze really brightens up the flavors of the pork skewers. Remind everyone to handle them with caution - the ends will be hot!

  • Start with butterflying the pork by slicing each cube in the center but not cutting through completely. This will allow more surface for the marinade to flavor the meat. In a gallon-sized zipper bag, combine the oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Drop in the pork cubes and seal. Lightly shake the bag to evenly coat the pork with the oil. Allow the pork to fully season in the refrigerator for at least an hour or up until 24 hours.
  • Combine the marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl, whisking until the sugar is dissolved. Toss in the pork, coating it evenly with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or up to 8 hours.
  • Light up your grill (charcoal or gas, whichever your preference). Meanwhile, toss the fruit and veggies with 1 1/2 Tablespoons of the vegetable oil in a large bowl, then season with salt and pepper. Brush the onions with the remaining oil and season with salt and pepper.
  • In this order, thread a pineapple chunk, onion stack, cube of meat, yellow pepper, and red pepper onto the skewers. Repeat this order one or two more times per skewer. Brush any remaining oil onto the skewers.
