INSTANT POT SALISBURY STEAK

Classic salisbury steak, made in the Instant Pot! My Instant Pot Salisbury Steak hosts all the delicious, traditional flavors we have come to love, with an easier method! A quick and delicious dinner the whole family will enjoy.

1 ½ pound ground beef (extra lean)
½ cup breadcrumbs
1 large egg
½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
½ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
½ teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
2 tablespoon olive oil (for browning patties)
1 large onion (halved and sliced thinly)
8 ounce mushrooms (white or cremini, sliced)
2 cups beef broth (low sodium)
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
¼ teaspoon salt (or to taste)
¼ teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
2 teaspoon cornstarch
2 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon fresh parsley (chopped, for garnish)

Steps:

  • Make Patties: In a large bowl, combine the beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper, using your clean hands. Divide into 6 equal pieces and form each one into oval patties.
  • Cook Patties: In a large skillet add the olive oil and heat over medium-high heat. Add the meat patties and fry on both sides until browned, about 3 minutes per side. Transfer the patties to a plate. *These can be browned in the instant pot as well using the sauté function, but I find it easier to just use a skillet.
  • Add Ingredients: Place the onion and mushrooms in the instant pot, then layer the beef patties over the mushrooms. Combine the beef broth, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper and pour over the steak.
  • Cook: Close the lid (follow the manufacturer's guide for instructions on how to close the instant pot lid). Cook on high pressure (Manual setting) for 18 minutes.
  • Make Gravy: Once the Instant Pot cycle is complete, quick release. Remove patties from the instant pot and turn the Instant Pot to the Saute setting. In a small bowl whisk the cornstarch with the 2 tbsp of water, pour this over the mushroom gravy in the IP. Stir everything well and cook for a couple more minutes until the gravy thickens.
  • Finish: Add the steak patties back to the Instant pot and spoon gravy over the top. Cook for another minute until the meat patties warm through.
  • Serve: Garnish with parsley and server over mashed potatoes, rice or noodles.

It's one of those traditional Southern comfort food items you'll find on the menu at Mom and Pop style restaurants and diners throughout the South. Fresh ground beef, caramelized onions and a rich brown gravy make this one more delicious item to serve to your family and friends.

1 pound of Ground Round Beef
1/2 teaspoon of Black Pepper
1 teaspoon of Salt
1/2 teaspoon of Garlic Powder
1 teaspoon of Worcestershire Sauce
1 whole Egg
1/4 cup of dry Bread Crumbs
2 Tablespoons of Butter
1 large Onion, sliced
2 Tablespoons of Flour
2 cups of Water
2 teaspoons of Beef Bouillon Granules

Steps:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the Beef, Black Pepper, Salt, Garlic Powder, Worcestershire Sauce, Bread Crumbs and one whole Egg. Stir mixture together well.
  • Shape into 4 equal sized patties.
  • Heat a skillet over medium heat for about a minute, and then add Butter.
  • Place meat patties in skillet and brown on both sides for about 4-5 minutes each. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Add the sliced Onion into the skillet, right on top of the browned bits.
  • Reduce the heat and cook the onions on medium-low heat until the onions turn translucent and brown. Don't rush this step. Cook the onions low and slow for about 20-25 minutes.
  • Sprinkle 2 Tablespoons of flour over the onions. Stir. Let cook and brown for about 2 minutes.
  • Add 2 cups of warm Water. Stir well. Raise the heat back up to about medium.
  • Add 2 teaspoons of Beef Bouillon Granules. Stir Well.
  • Place the meat patties back in the pan. Cover. Reduce heat just a little and let simmer for about 15 more minutes. Remove from heat and serve warm.
  • Enjoy!

1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed French onion soup
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mix together 1/3 cup condensed French onion soup with ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, salt and black pepper. Shape into 6 oval patties.
  • In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown both sides of patties. Pour off excess fat.
  • In a small bowl, blend flour and remaining soup until smooth. Mix in ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce and mustard powder. Pour over meat in skillet. Cover, and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

STEAKS:
1 1/2 lb ground chuck (80/20)
3/4 c panko bread crumbs
1 packet beef bouillon (from a 2.82 ounce package), divided
3 Tbsp onion flakes, dehydrated
1 large egg
1/4 c water
2 Tbsp soy sauce
1/4 c flour
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
SAUCE:
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp sesame oil
1 lb button mushrooms, quartered
1 medium onion, sliced
1/4 c diced red bell pepper
remaining beef bouillon
1 jar(s) (12 ounces) beef gravy ( au jus)
2 Tbsp soy sauce
3 stalk(s) green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Steps:

  • 1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chuck, Panko, 1/2 of the bouillon, onion flakes, egg, water and soy sauce.
  • 2. Mix well with hands until all ingredients are combined.
  • 3. Form into 6 patties.
  • 4. Dredge each patty with flour.
  • 5. Place a large non-stick skillet over medium high heat. Add the 2 tablespoons vegetable oil. Place patties in skillet and cook until browned, about 5-6 minutes. Turn patties and cook another 5-6 minutes.
  • 6. Meanwhile, make the sauce: In another non-stick skillet, add the oil, sesame oil, mushroom, onion, bell pepper and remaining bouillon powder.
  • 7. Cook over medium high heat, stirring often, for 6-8 minutes, or until onion is translucent.
  • 8. Add the gravy and soy sauce. Mix well to combine all ingredients.
  • 9. Pour sauce mixture over patties, making sure all patties have been coated with sauce.
  • 10. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat, cover and cook an additional 5-6 minutes or until patties are cooked through.
  • 11. Garnish each serving with chopped green onion.

2 tablespoons canola oil
3 celery ribs, chopped
1 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup reduced-sodium soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 medium green peppers, julienned
1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
1 can (14 ounces) bean sprouts, rinsed and drained
1 can (8 ounces) sliced water chestnuts, drained
1 jar (4-1/2 ounces) sliced mushrooms, drained
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water
Hot cooked rice
Minced chives, optional

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, brown meat in oil on all sides. Transfer meat and drippings to a 5-qt. slow cooker. Combine the celery, onion, soy sauce, sugar, garlic, ginger and pepper; pour over meat. Cover and cook on low for 5-1/2 to 6 hours or until meat is tender. , Add the green peppers, tomato sauce, bean sprouts, water chestnuts and mushrooms; cover and cook on low 1 hour longer. , Combine cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into beef mixture. Cover and cook on high for 30 minutes or until sauce is thickened. Serve with rice; if desired, sprinkle with chives. ,
