APPLE PIE SANDWICHES



Apple Pie Sandwiches image

This is a recipe from a cook named Michellem. I tried this and loved it! If you like french toast and you like apple pie, you'll love this! I added my photo!

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 c apples-peeled and diced
1 c water
1/2 c plus 1 tbls. sugar-divided
5 tsp cornstarch
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
2 tsp lemon juice, fresh
12 slice white bread
3 large eggs
2/3 c milk
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
confectioners' sugar-for dusting

Steps:

  • 1. In a saucepan, cook apples and water over medium heat for about 10 min. or until apples are tender.
  • 2. Combine 1/2 cup sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon and nutmeg;stir into apple mixture.
  • 3. Bring to a boil;cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened.
  • 4. Remove from heat; stir in lemon juice.
  • 5. Spread six slices of bread with 1/3 cup filling each;top with remaining bread.
  • 6. In a shallow bowl, beat the eggs, milk, vanilla and remaining sugar.
  • 7. Dip sandwiches in egg mixture in egg mixture.
  • 8. Cook on a lightly greased hot griddle until golden brown on both sides.
  • 9. Dust with confectioners sugar if desired.
  • 10. Smother with maple syrup if desired!

Okay, so it isn't exactly apple pie, but I like it. I never got the whole cheese on apple pie thing, then I tried this sandwich and think I might have to try cheese on apple pie.

2 slices cinnamon raisin bread
1 slice American cheese
1/4 small apple, cut into thin slices
2 teaspoons butter or 2 teaspoons margarine, softened

Steps:

  • TOP 1 of the bread slices with Singles and apple slices; cover with remaining bread slice.
  • SPREAD outside of sandwich with butter.
  • COOK in skillet on medium heat 2 minute on each side or until golden brown on both sides.
