2 c self rising flour
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/4 c light brown sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 c chopped dried apple

Steps:

  • 1. Combine all ingredients and place in a decorative jar with a tight fitting lid.
  • 2. Attach the following recipe to the jar: Apple Muffins Contents of jar 1 egg 3/4 cup milk 1/4 cup vegetable oil Heat oven to 400 degrees F. Turn jar contents into medium bowl. Add remaining ingredients, stirring just until moistened. Fill greased muffin cups 3/4 full. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until golden brown.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup chopped dried apples
1/3 cup chopped walnuts
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
ADDITIONAL INGREDIENTS:
2 tablespoons fat-free milk
2 tablespoons reduced-fat plain yogurt
2 teaspoons canola oil
1 teaspoon coarse sugar

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the first 9 ingredients. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 months. ., To prepare muffins: Place 1/2 cup muffin mix in a small bowl. Whisk the milk, yogurt and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Coat muffin cups with cooking spray or use foil liners; fill three-fourths full with batter. Sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake at 400° for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool for 5 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack. Serve warm.

2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 cup dried apple, chopped
3/4 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 egg

Steps:

  • Creating the Gift in a Jar:
  • Wash and thoroughly dry a 1-quart wide-mouth canning jar.
  • Layer the ingredients in the jar as listed above starting with the self-rising flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, brown sugar and then chopped dried apples - make sure to press firmly with a flat bottomed object after each addition; make the layers as level as possible.
  • Secure the lid and decorate as desired; attach the instructions for making these cookies found below.
  • APPLE MUFFINS GIFT TAG:
  • Additional ingredients to be added by the recipient: 3/4 cup milk, 1/4 cup vegetable oil and 1 egg
  • APPLE MUFFIN INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • In a large bowl, combine the milk, oil and egg.
  • Add the contents of the jar, and stir until well mixed; do not overstir.
  • Spoon the batter into greased or papered muffin tins, filling each cup two-thirds full.
  • Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool for 10 minutes in the tin, then transfer to a wire rack and cool completely.
  • Serve immediately or store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
