This may sound a bit strange, but it is really a rich and delicious recipe. The topping forms a soft golden brown crust that is somewhat cookie-like. It compliments the tartness of the apples very well. Enjoy!

- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- In a bowl, mix the apple slices, white sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons of flour, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon together until thoroughly combined; spread out into a 9x13-inch baking dish. In a separate large bowl, mix the melted butter with nutmeg and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon; stir in the brown sugar, oats, 1 cup of flour, and mini marshmallows until thoroughly combined. Spread the marshmallow topping evenly over the apples, and gently flatten the topping to a smooth layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown, 30 to 35 minutes.

- Roll out pie crust and place into pie plate.
- Fold under edge and crimp.
- Drizzle apples with lemon juice.
- Toss with combined sugar, flour, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Spoon into shell.
- Bake @ 450 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until apples are tender.
- Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees.
- Meanwhile, beat egg whites until soft peaks form.
- Gradually, add marshmallow cream, beating until stiff peaks form.
- Spread over apples, sealing to edge.
- Bake 10 minutes or until meringue is slightly browned.
- Cool and serve.

- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees F). Line pie pan with plain pastry.
- Peel, remove core and slice apples. Place in pie shell.
- Combine sugar, salt and nutmeg. Sprinkle over apples. Dot with butter.
- Bake at 425 degrees F (220 degrees C) for 30 minutes, or until crust is brown and the apples are tender. Remove from oven.

- Preheat the oven to 375 ̊. Roll out 1 piece of dough on a floured surface into a 12-inch round, starting at the center and working your way out. (Sprinkle flour over the top of the dough if it's a bit too moist.) Carefully lift the dough with a spatula and place in a 9-inch pie pan; gently press against the sides of the pan. Tuck the excess dough underneath itself.
- In a large bowl, mix the apples, pears, lemon juice, granulated sugar, flour and salt. Roll out the other piece of dough into a 12-inch round on a floured surface. Cut into twelve 1-inch-wide strips; discard both of the short ends.
- Pour the fruit mixture into the pie crust. Arrange 5 strips of dough in parallel rows on top of the filling. Working with one strip at a time, arrange the remaining 5 strips perpendicular to the first ones, weaving the strips over and under to form a lattice. Trim the ends of the strips and press them against the bottom crust. Crimp the crust edges with your fingers. Brush the dough with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the coarse sugar.
- Cover the crust edges with strips of foil and bake the pie for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking until the apples and pears are softened and the liquid is bubbly, about 50 more minutes. (Cover the edges with foil again if the crust is getting too dark.) Allow to cool for 20 minutes before serving.
