4 medium tart cooking apples, sliced (4 cups)
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1/2 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
1/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cream or Ice cream, if desired

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 375°F. Grease bottom and sides of 8-inch square pan with shortening.
  • Spread apples in pan. In medium bowl, stir remaining ingredients except cream until well mixed; sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake about 30 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender when pierced with a fork. Serve warm with cream.

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
Vanilla ice cream, optional

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375°. Place apples in a large bowl. Combine sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; sprinkle over apples and toss to coat. Transfer to a greased 13x9-in. baking dish. Combine flour, brown sugar, oats, baking powder, nutmeg and remaining cinnamon; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over apples. Bake until apples are tender, 50-60 minutes. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, if desired.

6 golden delicious apples, peeled and chopped ((other varieties can be used, can also be sliced))
2 Tbsp granulated sugar
1 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon, (divided)
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
1 cup light brown sugar
3/4 cup old fashioned oats
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes
pinch of kosher salt

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F degrees. Butter an 8x8 baking dish, or spray with non-stick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, add chopped apples, granulated sugar, 3/4 tsp of the cinnamon and lemon juice. Stir to combine, then transfer to prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate mixing bowl, add topping ingredients (brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, salt, and diced cold butter). Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the oat mixture, using a slight downward twisting motion, until mixture resembled pea-sized crumbs. Alternatively, you can use two forks or even your hands to cut butter into the mixture.
  • Spread topping over apples in baking dish, and gently pat to even it out. Bake 40-50 minutes, until golden brown and bubbly.
  • Serve warm and enjoy!

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Peel and thinly slice the apples.
  • Mix the sliced apples, corn starch, sugar, lemon juice and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl and mix using a spatula until the ingredients are combined.
  • In another mixing bowl add in the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cubed butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  • Mix the topping with your hands until it becomes a crumble texture.
  • In a round skillet layer the apples evenly until the bottom is filled. Then add a second layer over until you run out of apples.
  • Crumble the apple crisp topping over the top of the apples, covering all of them.
  • Place the skillet on a baking sheet and in the oven for 40 minutes at 350 degrees.The apples will be tender and the topping should be brown and crispy.
  • Melt the 1/2 cup butter and pour it all over the top of the crisp.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

This apple crisp macchiato is the perfect drink for fall! It's packed with warming spices and it's just as good as the popular drink at Starbucks!

1 cup apple puree
¾ cup maple syrup
½ cup water
½ tsp apple pie spice
2 tsp vanilla extract
2-3 tbsp apple syrup
½ cup plant-based milk (I like almond milk)
2 shots espresso

Steps:

  • Add the apple puree, maple syrup, water, and apple pie spice into a small pot. Stir and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in the vanilla extract at the end of cooking.
  • When it's done it should be slightly thicker and darker in color.
  • Strain it through a mesh strainer into a heat-proof bowl. This step is optional but recommended.
  • Store in a glass jar until ready to use. Let cool uncovered before closing with a lid and transferring to a fridge.
  • To make an apple crisp macchiato, add 2-3 tbsp of the syrup into a tall glass. Top with ice. Use a milk frother to froth the cold milk. I like a handheld milk frother, it's cheap and works! Pour the milk over the ice.
  • Make the espresso and pour it into the glass over the ice. Stir and enjoy!
