CREAMY APPLE SQUARES

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350*.
- Combine cake mix and butter; mix until crumbly.
- Reserve 2/3 cup of crumbly mixture for topping.
- Stir brown sugar into remaining mixture.
- Cover bottom of ungreased 13x9 inch pan with brown sugar mixture. Pat down.
- Arrange apple slices over base.
- Blend sour cream and egg; spread evenly over apples.
- Sprinkle topping mixture over all.
- Sprinkle cinnamon over top.
- Bake at 350* for 25 to 30 minutes of until topping is golden brown and bubbly.
- Serve warm.
- Refrigerate leftovers.
- Note: to increase visual appeal, I sometimes dust a little powdered sugar over the top under the cinnamon.

COUNTRY APPLE SQUARES
I found this recipe in a newspaper a number of years ago, and I have been making it ever since. The apples go so well with the crumb and cream cheese layers. When fall comes around, this dessert is a real hit! Hint: Many reviewers have suggested doubling the amount of cream cheese!

Steps:
- Combine flour, brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Cut in butter to resemble coarse crumbs.
- Add walnuts.
- Measure 2 cups crumb mixture and set aside.
- Press remaining mixture into a greased 9" x 13" pan.
- Beat cream cheese and milk until smooth.
- Mix in egg, sugar, and vanilla.
- Pour over crumb mixture, and top with apples.
- Sprinkle with the reserved crumbs and bake for 30 minutes at 350°F.
- (Weight Watchers Points per serving: 7).
CUSTARDY APPLE SQUARES
Steps:
- Center a rack in the oven and preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Butter an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Slice the apples from top to bottom using a mandoline, Benriner or a sharp knife, turning the fruit as you reach the core. The slices should be about 1/16 inch thick-elegantly thin, but not so thin that they're transparent and fragile. Discard the cores.
- Whisk the flour and baking powder together in a small bowl.
- Working in a large bowl with a whisk, beat the eggs, sugar and salt together for about 2 minutes, until the sugar just about dissolves and, more important, the eggs are pale. Whisk in the vanilla, followed by the milk and melted butter. Turn the flour into the bowl and stir with the whisk until the batter is smooth. Add the apples to the bowl, switch to a flexible spatula and gently fold the apples into the batter, turning everything around until each thin slice is coated in batter. Scrape the batter into the pan and smooth the top as evenly as you can-it will be bumpy; that's its nature.
- Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until golden brown, uniformly puffed- make sure the middle of the cake has risen-and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Transfer the cake to a rack and allow to cool for at least 15 minutes.
- Using a long chefs knife, cut the cake into 8 squares in the pan (being careful not to damage the pan), or unmold the cake onto a rack, flip it onto a plate and cut into squares. Either way, give the squares a dusting of confectioners' sugar before serving, if you'd like.
APPLE CRAP (APPLE SQUARES)
My Grandmothers apple desert that the family always loved. Especially my Sister and Myself.Grandma Marie always called it "That Apple Crap" when we asked her what was for desert if this was on the menu.

Steps:
- preheat oven to 400.
- thinly slice all apples.
- separate egg.
- mix flour, tbsp sugar, salt.
- mix these ingredients with shortening as you would to make a pie crust.
- mix egg yolk and enough water to make 2/3 cups liquid and add to crust mixture.
- separate crust dough into two parts.
- roll out 1/2 crust to cover a cookie sheet.
- spread corn flakes evenly on top of crust.
- evenly layer apples on top of corn flakes.
- mix 1 up sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of apples.
- dot top of apples with the butter.
- roll out remaining crust to top everything and pinch together the edges.
- whip egg white to a froth and brush on top crust.
- bake at 400 for 1 hour.
- make a glaze with the powder sugar and enough water to make the mixture speadable.
- spread glaze on pie as soon as it is baked.
- let cool and serve alone or with vanilla ice cream.
