ANNETTE'S CRISPY OATMEAL BARS
This is another of my mother's great recipes. All of the grand kids asked for them, so she had them on hand most of the time packed in an empty Cool Whip container.

Steps:
- Cream together sugars, shortening, egg, salt, soda and vanilla.
- Blend in remaining ingredients. Dough will be stiff.
- Press into greased pan.
- Bake 20 - 25 minutes at 350º in a 9 x 13 pan.

- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter an 8-inch square baking pan. Line bottom with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides; butter paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together butter, sugars, egg, salt, and cinnamon until smooth. Add flour, oats, and raisins; fold in just until combined.

- Mix flour, salt and baking soda. Add brown sugar and oatmeal, mix well. Cut in 1 cup butter.
- Spread half of the crumb mixture in a buttered 9 x 13 pan.
- Put apples on top of bottom layer. Cover with remaining crumb mixture and dot with 4 tablespoons butter.
- Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 40 to 45 minutes. It is great served with ice cream!

- Remove the core and thinly slice apples.
- Place apple slices in a large bowl and gently mix in sugar, cornstarch, and cinnamon. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 350˚F (180˚C).
- In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, and butter. Mix until crumbly.
- Line a 9x13-inch (23x33 cm) baking dish with parchment paper and pour ⅔ of the oats mixture in the bottom of the pan, pressing firmly to pack it down to make a crust.
- Pour apples over the crust and spread in an even layer. Pour the remaining oat mixture over the top and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool completely before cutting.
