Madison's Angel Food Cake French Toast image

We think this is simply the best french toast ever! Light, fluffy, sweet, and delicious! Hope you enjoy it! Serve with fresh fruit and pure maple syrup.

1 (18.25 ounce) package angel food cake mix
1 ¼ cups water
4 eggs
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons butter, divided

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Beat cake mix and water together in a bowl until moist; pour into a 10-inch tube pan.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until top is golden brown, cracked, and looks dry, 38 to 48 minutes. Set aside 8 hours to overnight.
  • Whisk eggs, milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt together in a bowl.
  • Cut cake into 12 slices. Dip each slice in the egg mixture to coat.
  • Melt enough of the butter in a large skillet over medium heat to coat the cooking surface. Cook the cake slices in batches the skillet until golden brown, 2 to 3 minutes per side.

2 large eggs
1/2 cup half-and-half cream
2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons butter, divided
2 prepared loaves angel food cake, cut into 12 slices
Topping:
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons sugar
1/4 cup apple jelly
1/4 cup fresh blueberries
1/3 cup sliced peeled kiwifruit
1/3 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1/3 cup seedless red grapes, halved
1/3 cup fresh blackberries
1/2 cup chopped peeled mango
1/2 cup clementine segments
1/2 cup fresh raspberries
Frozen whipped topping, thawed, optional

Steps:

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla and cinnamon until blended. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon butter over medium heat. Dip both sides of cake in egg mixture. Place in skillet; cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and keep warm; repeat with remaining slices., Meanwhile, combine sour cream, sugar and remaining vanilla; set aside. In the microwave, melt the jelly. , To serve, arrange toast slices on a platter. Top with sour cream mixture and fruit; drizzle with melted jelly. If desired, serve with whipped topping.

1 ¼ cups confectioners' sugar
1 cup cake flour
1 ½ cups egg whites, room temperature
¼ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon almond extract
1 cup white sugar
1 cup chopped toasted almonds

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Sift the confectioners sugar and cake flour together and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, whip the egg whites on high speed until foamy. Continue to whip on high speed while adding salt, cream of tartar, vanilla and almond extract. Gradually add the white sugar and continue to whip until whites have stiff peaks. Quickly fold in the flour mixture 1/4 cup at a time. Mix only until flour is incorporated. Do not deflate egg whites.
  • Pour batter into a 10-inch tube pan. Sprinkle top with chopped almonds. Bake at 375 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 to 40 minutes, or until top of cake bounces back when lightly tapped. Remove from oven, invert pan, and allow to cool in the pan. When cake is cool, loosen sides with a long knife and remove to a serving dish.

4 slice store bought or homemade angel food cake
8 tsp soft butter or margarine spread
1/4 c light brown sugar
2 scoop coffee ice cream

Steps:

  • 1. Spread all 4 cake slices on both sides with butter; Sprinkle both sides with brown sugar,
  • 2. Place cake slices on a lightly greased foil lined baking sheet. Broil 5 1/2 inches from heat 1 to 2 minutes on each side or until cake is toasted and sugar is bubbly. Watch closely not to burn! Let stand 2 to 3 minutes.
  • 3. Arrange your slices (2 per person)on a small plate and add a generous scoop of coffee ice cream, and serve immediately. This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
