AIR FRYER FRIED PICKLES

Air Fryer Fried Pickles image

This crispy and satisfying appetizer is a lower-guilt alternative to deep-fried pickle chips. Using pre-sliced pickle chips is a shortcut that makes this quick to prepare. You can reduce the sriracha sauce to 1 tablespoon if you like a milder sauce.

AIR FRYER FRIED PICKLES

Air Fryer Fried Pickles image

Get crispy, crunchy fried pickles with barely any oil.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Time 45m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

One 16-ounce jar dill pickle chips
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning
1 cup buttermilk
A couple of dashes hot sauce
1 1/2 cups panko
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Kosher salt
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup mayonnaise
4 teaspoons ketchup
1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning

Steps:

  • For the pickles: Preheat a 3.5-quart air fryer to 390 degrees F. Set a wire rack inside a baking sheet.
  • Drain the pickles and spread them out on a paper towel-lined baking sheet. Pat dry with more paper towels, pressing gently to remove as much moisture as possible. Eliminate any pickles with large holes or ones that are very thin.
  • Set up a breading station using 3 medium bowls: Whisk together the flour, cayenne and 1/2 teaspoon Cajun seasoning in one bowl. In the second bowl combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. In the last combine the panko, Italian seasoning, the remaining 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Drizzle in the oil and use your hands to toss and coat the panko.
  • Working in small batches, bread the pickles: First, toss a handful of pickles in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Then dunk them in the buttermilk mixture to completely coat, shaking to remove any excess. Finally, toss them in the panko, pressing gently to make it adhere. Arrange the breaded pickles on the prepared baking sheet and repeat until all the pickles are breaded.
  • Arrange one-third of the breaded pickles in the basket of the air fryer in a single layer. Cook for 8 minutes, the pickles will be very crunchy and browned on both sides. Remove to a serving plate and repeat with the remaining two batches of pickles.
  • For the dipping sauce: Meanwhile, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish and Cajun seasoning in small bowl.
  • Serve the warm pickles with the dipping sauce or use them and the dipping sauce to top your favorite burger.

  • Place the dill pickles out on a paper towel in a single layer and then place a paper towel firmly on top of the pickles. This will absorb the moisture from the pickles so that the breading will be able to stick to the pickles.
  • In one medium bowl add flour, salt, and cajun seasoning; mix it together. In another bowl add panko breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs and garlic powder; mix it together. In another bowl add 2 eggs and pickle juice; whisk it together.
  • Now coat the pickles: Taking a few pickles at a time, add them to the bowl with the flour mixture and cover completely. Then add the pickles to the egg mixture, coating completely. Drip off any extra egg coating and then place in the bread crumb mixture. Press the pickles firmly into the bread crumb mixture to make sure the coating sticks well.
  • Place the coated pickles in the Air Fryer in a single layer and make sure they don't touch each other (you will likely have to do in batches unless your air fryer is giant sized). Lightly spray the tops of the pickles with oil spray.
