Air Fryer Italian Sausages, Peppers, and Onions image

Great on a crusty roll but they can be served over rice, if preferred. Add a whole link to a roll or cut diagonally and stretch the links for another portion.

2 small onions
1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 small yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 small orange bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
¾ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 pound sweet Italian sausage links
4 lightly toasted buns
4 slices provolone cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C).
  • Cut onions in half from root to stem; cut each half into thirds. Combine onions and bell peppers in a medium bowl. Add olive oil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper; toss to combine. Transfer vegetables into the air fryer basket and set the sausage links on top without touching one another.
  • Air fry for 15 minutes. Turn sausages and air fry for another 10 minutes.
  • Place each sausage in a bun and top with vegetables and provolone cheese.

Steps:

  • Since Italian sausages are already preseasoned and have a higher fat content, you don't need to do any prep work for this recipe. I like to take the sausage out of the fridge for 5-10 minutes before cooking. Air Fryer Italian Sausage TemperatureCook on 360 F. Lay the sausage in a single layer on the air fryer basket, leaving room on all sides. No need to preheat the air fryer, just lay the sausages on the basket and put in at 360 F. Air Fry Sausage Cook TimeCook the Italian sausages in an air fryer oven for 6 minutes flip over, and continue cooking for 5-6 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160F. Some air fryer models could take slightly longer to cook. Be sure not to overcook the sausages as they'll start to shrivel and juices could start leaking out of the sausage. Remove the Italian sausages from the air fryer and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. It takes at least 5 minutes for the juices to redistribute evenly throughout the meat and make every bite juicy and moist. Enjoy!

Steps:

  • Preheat the air fryer for 5 minutes on 400 F.
  • Lay the breakfast sausage links in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Since the sausage is a high-fat food, you'll want to make sure your fryer is clean on the inside, or else you could end up with the dreaded white smoke problem when the grease hits the bottom of the fryer.
  • Cook the sausage for a total of 8-10 minutes, until they're browned to your liking. We took ours out after 9 minutes.
  • AIR FRYER NOTE: If you have a basket-style air fryer and aren't able to spread out your sausage with breathing room on all sides, then we recommend you flip your sausages after 5 minutes.
  • Enjoy! Makes 10 sausage links.
