This is an Americanized version of bang bang chicken cooked in an air fryer. To prevent the chicken from losing its crispy texture, I prefer to serve the sauce on the side.

½ cup milk
1 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
½ cup flour
½ cup tapioca starch
1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon garlic granules

1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
cooking spray
¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
1 teaspoon hot sauce

Steps:

  • Preheat air fryer to 380 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Whisk together egg, milk, and hot sauce in a shallow bowl. Combine flour, tapioca starch, salt, garlic, and cumin in a second bowl. Dip chicken pieces first in the egg mixture, then dredge in the dry mix, shaking off excess. Place in batches in the air fryer basket, careful to not overcrowd, and lightly spray chicken with oil.
  • Cook, shaking basket after 5 minutes, until chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 10 minutes per batch.
  • Mix together Greek yogurt, sweet chili sauce, and hot sauce in a small bowl. Serve sauce with the chicken.

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons raw honey
1/2 tablespoon sriracha sauce (or to taste)
1 cup buttermilk
2/3 cup all-purpose flour (more if needed)
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 egg
1 teaspoon sriracha sauce (or to taste)
salt & pepper (to taste)
1 lb boneless & skinless chicken breast (or chicken thighs - cut into bite size pieces)
1 cup Panko bread crumbs (more in needed)
oil of your choice (for greasing air fryer)

Steps:

  • To make bang bang chicken sauce, combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Whisk until everything is combined. Set aside.
  • To make bang bang chicken in air fryer, first make buttermilk batter by combining buttermilk, flour, corn starch, egg, sriracha sauce, salt and pepper. Then whisk until combined.
  • Grease Air Fryer with any oil of your choice before adding chicken. Next, working in batches, dip chicken pieces in buttermilk batter then breadcrumbs and add it into the Air Fryer. Air Fry at 375F for 8-10 minutes or until chicken is cooked thru. Flip the chicken pieces on the other side once. (Make sure not to crowd the chicken pices inside the air fryer.)
  • Drizzle the sauce over the chicken and serve with leafy greens or Fried Rice Recipe with Eggs and Green Onion. Enjoy!

2 large boneless skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-size pieces)
½ cup all purpose flour
2 large eggs (lightly beaten)
1 ½ cups Panko Breadcrumbs
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
salt and pepper
Non-stick cooking spray or olive oil spray
½ cup mayo
3 tbsp Sweet Chili Sauce
1 tbsp Sriracha Sauce
1 tsp sugar

Steps:

  • Make sure air fryer is preheated at 400° F for at least 3 to 5 minutes before chicken goes in basket.
  • Season chicken breast pieces with salt and pepper and set aside. Place flour in a small bowl, eggs in a separate bowl and combine breadcrumbs, garlic powder and onion powder in another small bowl.
  • Dip chicken pieces in flour, shaking off excess flour. Place floured chicken in eggs and turn to coat. Remove from eggs, letting any excess drip off and then place into breadcrumb bowl. Coat chicken with breadcrumb mixture and then transfer to a plate until all pieces have been breaded. (it's easier to work one piece at a time, so all pieces are evenly coated).
  • Spray the chicken pieces with non-stick spray and place in an even layer (or as close to an even layer as you can) in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400° F for 12-15 minutes, shaking basket halfway through, until chicken is golden brown and crisp on the outside. Make sure chicken reaches at least 165° F.

1 lb chicken breast ((cut into 1 inch pieces))
1 cup blanched almond flour
1/2 cup crushed plantain chips or tortilla chips*
1/2 tsp sea salt
1 large egg
1 tbsp lime juice
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp chili garlic sauce**
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp honey***

Steps:

  • Begin by prepping the chicken. In a shallow bowl, combine the almond flour, salt and crushed up chips.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together lime juice and egg.
  • Take each chicken piece and dip into the egg mixture first, then dip into the flour/chip mixture. Place all chicken pieces in one layer in the air fryer (you may have to do in batches if you have a small air fryer).
  • Set the air fryer to 380 and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until chicken is cooked through. Flip over each chicken piece, and cook for another 6-8 minutes, or until nice and crispy.
  • While chicken is cooking, make the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, chili garlic sauce, honey, and rice vinegar.
  • Once chicken is done place on a large plate and drizzle with sauce. You can also use as a dipping sauce.

1.17 pounds boneless skinless chicken diced into 1 inch cubes (**530 g , Use chicken thighs or breasts)
1 cup all purpose flour.
2 cups Panko Bread crumbs. (**skillet roasted until golden)
2 extra large eggs (**whisked well)
Oil Spray (**like avocado or canola)
1/2 tbsp garlic powder
1 tbsp Paprika
Salt (to taste)
1 tsp Ground Black Pepper
Salt (to taste)
Bang Bang Sauce
chopped scallions

Steps:

  • Set a skillet over medium high heat and dry roast the panko bread crumbs stirring frequently until uniformly golden. Bread crumbs burn quickly, do not leave unattended. Set them aside.
  • Add the seasonings (mentioned above in the "Seasonings" section) into the all purpose flour and whisk to mix well.
  • Dice the chicken into 1 inch cubes and rub them with 1 teaspoon crushed black pepper.
  • Transfer the seasoned flour into a large ziplock bag and add the chicken cubes. Seal the bag and coat the chicken with flour by gently rubbing and shaking the bag with the help of your hands.
  • Prepare an assembly line - arrange the flour coated chicken, whisked eggs in a bowl and the skillet roasted panko in a dry flat plate in a symmetrical order.
  • Now, take one flour coated chicken piece from the zip lock bag and shake off any excess flour. Quickly dip it in the whisked egg coat on all sides and lay it on the bed of bread crumbs. Gently roll the chicken to uniformly crumb coat it. Set it aside on a clean dry plate. Repeat the process until you are done with all the pieces.
  • Place the air fryer Instant Pot Basket inside the steel pot of the Instant Pot. Spray the air fryer basket with oil.
  • Now arrange the crumb coated chicken inside the air fryer basket in one single layer. Do not over crowd or stack the chicken one on top of the other.
  • Spray the chicken with oil.
  • Seal the air fryer lid and press the AIR FRY Button. Set the temperate 400 F and the time 10 minutes. Finally, press the START button.
  • After 5 mins of cooking time, open the air fryer lid and flip the chicken pieces. Spray them with oil and again air fry them for the rest of the 5 mins using the same settings you used before.
  • When the cooking cycle is over carefully open the lid of the air fryer and bring out the crispy air fried bang bang chicken on to a moisture free plate.
  • Drizzle with generous amount of Bang Bang Sauce and sprinkle some chopped scallions and serve hot right away. Enjoy!

½ cup sweet chili sauce
2 tablespoons Sriracha sauce
⅓ cup flour
1 pound chicken breast tenderloins, cut into bite-size pieces
1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs
2 green onions, chopped

Steps:

  • Whisk mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and Sriracha together in a large bowl. Spoon out 3/4 cup of the mixture and set aside.
  • Place flour in a large resealable plastic bag. Add chicken, close bag, and shake to coat. Transfer coated chicken pieces to the large bowl with the mayonnaise mixture and stir to combine.
  • Place panko bread crumbs in another large plastic resealable bag. Working in batches, drop chicken pieces into bread crumbs, close, and shake to coat.
  • Preheat an air fryer to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Place as many chicken pieces into the air fryer basket as you can without overcrowding. Cook in the hot air fryer for 10 minutes. Flip and cook 5 additional minutes. Repeat with remaining chicken.
  • Transfer fried chicken to a large bowl and pour reserved sauce over the top. Sprinkle with green onions and toss to coat. Serve immediately.
