1 can (18 oz) Progresso™ Vegetable Classics French onion soup
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
12 slices cooked gluten-free bacon
6 slices (1 oz each) Cheddar cheese
6 gluten-free hamburger buns, split

Steps:

  • Heat gas or charcoal grill for direct heat. Carefully brush oil on grill rack. In large bowl, mix beef, 2/3 cup of the soup, salt and pepper. Shape mixture into 6 patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Spray both sides of patties with cooking spray.
  • Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F. Add cheese slices during last 1 to 3 minutes of grilling or until cheese is melted. Top each burger with 2 slices bacon. Serve in buns.
  • If desired; heat remaining soup until hot and serve with burgers (or reserve for another use).

1/2 cup chopped onion
1 lb. lean ground beef
4 tablespoons spicy barbecue sauce
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 burger buns, split

Steps:

  • In medium skillet, cook bacon and onion over medium heat until bacon is crisp and onion is tender, stirring frequently.
  • Meanwhile, in medium bowl, combine ground beef, 2 tablespoons of the barbecue sauce, seasoned salt and pepper; mix well. Shape mixture into 4 patties, 1/2 inch thick.
  • With slotted spoon, remove bacon-onion mixture from skillet; cover to keep warm. Add patties to same skillet; cook over medium heat for 10 to 12 minutes or until thoroughly cooked, turning once.
  • Spread remaining 2 tablespoons barbecue sauce on bottom halves of buns. Top each with burger, bacon-onion mixture and top half of bun.

1 lb ground beef (gently formed into 6 balls)
2 medium yellow onions (very thinly sliced with a mandoline or a sharp knife and divided into 6 equal portions)
kosher salt, to taste
6 slices American cheese
6 hamburger buns, toasted

Steps:

  • Working in 2 batches, heat 2 tablespoons oil in a 12" cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add 3 beef balls and, using the back of a spatula, press down on them until they're thin; cook for 1 minute.
  • Top each patty with a portion of the onions; season with salt.
  • Press onions into the meat and cook for 1 minute more.
  • Flip burgers; flatten with the spatula. Place a cheese slice on each patty and let melt while onions and meat brown.

Serve 'em up plain & simple, or dress 'em up with crispy bacon, caramelized onions & a light + fluffy brioche bun. A restaurant-quality homemade beef burger recipe perfect for weeknight cooking or backyard BBQs!

1 1/3 pounds 85% lean ground beef
1 1-ounce envelope onion soup seasoning mix
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon Morton coarse kosher salt
for serving: toasted St Pierre Brioche Burger Buns, white cheddar or cheese of choice, crispy bacon, caramelized onions (below), lettuce, tomato, mustard, ketchup, Dijonnaise (below), etc.
2 large sweet onions, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon Morton coarse kosher salt
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
1/3 cup high-quality mayonnaise
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1 clove garlic, finely chopped or grated
Morton coarse kosher salt & ground black pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Prepare the grill for medium-high direct grilling, 450-500 degrees F. Prep any toppings & condiments as desired (see below).
  • Add the ground beef, onion soup seasoning mix, Worcestershire sauce & kosher salt to a large mixing bowl. Using your hands, mix just until well combined. Be careful not to overmix as it yields a dryer, tougher burger. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Press each portion into a 1-inch thick burger patty. Use your thumb to press a slight indent in the center of each burger patty.
  • Place the burger patties on the grill grates, directly over the flame. Grill 3 minutes per side for medium doneness. If you prefer a less/more done burger, grill for 1 minute less/more. If making a cheeseburger, add the cheese to the burger patties in their last minute of grilling. Toast the St Pierre Brioche Burger Buns while you're at it - see below!
  • Build your burgers as desired. At our house, the toasted St Pierre brioche buns get a quick schmear of Dijonnaise, topped with leafy lettuce, a French onion burger, crispy bacon, & caramelized onions. Serve immediately. Enjoy!

1 pound bacon
1/2 white onion, chopped
1/3 cup dark brown sugar
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1 bunch roughly chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 pound ground beef
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons pepper
Grapeseed oil, for cooking the burger
4 slices American cheese
4 slices Cheddar
4 hamburger buns, toasted
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup arugula

Steps:

  • For the bacon jam: Cook the bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until browned and crisp and the fat has rendered out. Allow to cool, then chop the bacon.
  • In the same pan with the bacon drippings, add the onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until slightly softened. Add the brown sugar, vinegar and thyme; bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and cook until the liquid is absorbed and the mixture has thickened to a jam-like consistency, about 20 minutes. Stir in the bacon; remove from the heat.
  • For the burger: Divide the beef into 4 equal portions and form into burger patties. Sprinkle both sides of each patty with salt and pepper.
  • Heat the oil in a pan or griddle over high heat. Cook the patties until golden brown and slightly charred on the first side, about 3 minutes. Flip over the patties and cook until golden brown and slightly charred on the second side or to the desired degree of doneness, about 4 minutes for medium-rare. Add 1 slice of American cheese and 1 slice of Cheddar to the top of each patty during the last minute of cooking, then top the pan with a basting cover or tent the patties with aluminum foil to melt the cheese.
  • Coat the bottom of the buns with mayo. Put the patties on the mayo-coated buns and top with the arugula and bacon jam. Sandwich the burger together with the tops of the buns and serve immediately.

1 1/4 cups breadcrumbs (fresh soft)
1 large egg

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Gather the ingredients.

  • In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until lightly browned, but not crisp (8 minutes or so). Transfer the bacon to paper towels to drain. Pour off all but 2 to 3 tablespoons of bacon fat from the skillet. Add the onion, season lightly with salt and pepper, and cover the pan; cook for 2 minutes. Form into 4 hamburger patties, and press your thumb into the center of each patty to create a deep depression. Preheat your grill. Grill burgers to desired doneness (4 to 5 minutes per side). Toast the buns too, if desired- if you're serving with buns.
