It all starts with a tender sugar cookie base flavored with orange and vanilla extract. White vanilla baking chips add sweet creaminess, and the orange tint is a fun touch that's easy to pull off with a little food coloring. So no matter the time of year, you can always surprise the kids with a treat that'll bring back the sweet days of summer!

1 pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker™ sugar cookie mix
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon orange extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
5 drops yellow food color
2 drops red food color
1 1/2 cups white vanilla baking chips

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350°F. In a small bowl, whisk egg, food coloring, vanilla and orange extract. In large bowl, mix butter and sugar cookie mix until well blended. Then, mix in egg and food coloring mixture. Once soft dough has formed, stir in baking chips.
  • On ungreased cookie sheets, drop dough with 1 1/2 tablespoon-size cookie scoop or by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake 9 to 10 minutes or just until dough is set (do not overbake). Cool 1 minute; remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely.

3 cups Flour (all-purpose flour works great)
1 tsp Baking Soda
1 tsp Salt
1 cup Butter (Room temperature)
1 1/2 cup Sugar (White Granulated )
2 large Eggs (large)
3/4 tsp Orange Extract
1/2 cup Butter (room temperature)
2 Tablespoons Orange Juice
1/2 tsp Orange Extract
1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract (Pure extract if possible)
3 cups Powdered Sugar (plus 1/2 cup if needed)
2 Tablespoons Orange Zest (zest from 2 oranges)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a small bowl.
  • Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large mixing bowl until creamy. Add the eggs and then beat well again. Gradually mix the flour mixture into the butter mixture until all ingredients are combined.
  • Roll the cookie dough into balls, about 1 1/2" cookie dough balls and place on a large greased baking sheet.
  • Bake in a preheated 325-degree oven for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are barely golden brown.
  • Let the cookies cool for a couple of minutes on the baking sheet and then transfer to a wire baking rack. Let the cookie cool completely before frosting.

This is a great orange flavored cookie made from a jar of mix that makes a great gift. Use a jar with a tight fitting lid (the kind with a rubber ring and clamp-type lid is good). Attach the instructions on a recipe card.

3/4 c sugar
1/2 c orange instant drink mix (tang)
1 1/2 c vanilla or white chocolate chips
1 3/4 c all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
FOR MIXING:
1 jar(s) dreamsicle cookie mix
1/2 c butter, softened
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Mix flour, baking soda and baking powder together thoroughly.
  • 2. Carefully layer ingredients in a quart jar, starting with sugar, then Tang, then chips and flour mixture last. Seal jar and attach instructions for baking.
  • 3. On the tag, print the FOR MIXING ingredients and the following instructions: Mix all ingredients until completely blended. Roll dough into walnut sized balls. Place 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Cookies will spread. Bake at 375F. for 12 to 14 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on cookie sheet and remove to wire rack to cool completely.

2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup white chocolate chips
3 tablespoons powdered orange drink mix, such as Tang
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon butter or margarine
3 tablespoons powdered orange drink mix, such as Tang
1 cup confectioners' sugar
Water or milk

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Lightly grease baking sheets. Cream the shortening and the sugar together until light. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing well. Dissolve the baking soda in the buttermilk. Add the buttermilk mixture, salt, 3 tablespoons Tang, flour and baking powder to the shortening mixture. Mix well. Stir in the white chocolate chips. Drop dough by teaspoonsful onto the prepared sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Frost cookies while still hot with Tang Glaze. Tang Glaze Combine the butter, 3 tablespoons Tang, confectioners' sugar and enough water or milk to reach a thick, yet still pourable, consistency and beat until smooth. Makes 4 dozen.

1/2 cup butter
1 large egg
