I usually make this bacon, lettuce, onion, pea, cheese and cauliflower layered salad in a large flat bowl. There's never too much because everybody loves it! You can vary the salad by substituting green onions for red, jack cheese for the Cheddar, etc.

1 pound bacon
1 large head iceberg lettuce - rinsed, dried, and chopped
1 red onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas, thawed
10 ounces shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup chopped cauliflower
1 ¼ cups mayonnaise
2 tablespoons white sugar
⅔ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until evenly brown. Crumble and set aside.
  • In a large flat bowl, place the chopped lettuce and top with a layer of onion, peas, shredded cheese, cauliflower and bacon.
  • Prepare the dressing by whisking together the mayonnaise, sugar and Parmesan cheese. Drizzle over salad and refrigerate until chilled.

This salad has been a regular at our church potluck dinners and is always enjoyed by many. I asked for the recipe early on and have made it many times in the past 15 years.

1 cucumber, peeled and chopped, or more to taste
3 cups frozen peas, thawed
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
4 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and sliced
1 cup creamy salad dressing (such as Miracle Whip®)
½ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
12 ounces cooked crumbled bacon

Steps:

  • Layer lettuce, cucumber, peas, Cheddar cheese, and egg, respectively, in a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  • Whisk creamy salad dressing, sugar, and vinegar together in a bowl until dressing is smooth; spread over the egg layer. Crumble bacon over dressing layer.

A perfect combination of layers dressed with a delicious homemade dressing makes for a gorgeous salad!

1 head iceberg lettuce (chopped)
2 cups tomatoes (diced, or sliced cherry tomatoes)
2 cups frozen peas (defrosted (uncooked))
½ cup green onions (or red onions, sliced)
8 hard boiled eggs (cooled, peeled and chopped)
2 cups cheddar cheese (shredded)
8 slices bacon (cooked crisp and crumbled)
¾ cup sour cream
1 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon seasoned salt

Steps:

  • Combine all dressing ingredients in a small bowl and mix well.
  • Place lettuce in the bottom of a large bowl (or 9x13 pan).
  • Top with tomatoes, peas, onions and boiled eggs. Spread dressing overtop to seal the edges. Top with cheese.
  • Cover salad and refrigerate at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Top with bacon before serving.

½ teaspoon onion powder

9 cups roughly chopped green leaf or romaine lettuce (divided)
1 large red bell pepper (seeded and diced)
1 large poblano or green bell pepper seeded and diced
1 12 oz frozen corn (steamed and cooled)
6 medium tomatoes (5 chopped and 1 sliced into wedges for garnish)
1 medium red onion (thinly sliced)
2 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 lb bacon (cooked and crumbled)
4 cup roasted chicken (roughly chopped)
3 green onion (thinly sliced)
2 large hard boiled eggs (cut into wedges)

Steps:

  • Make Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing per the recipe here.
  • To assemble: In a large trifle or glass bowl layer in this order: 1/3 lettuce, 1/2 red pepper, 1/2 poblano pepper, 1/3 corn, 1/2 tomatoes, 1/2 red onion, 1 cup cheese, 1/3 bacon and 1/2 chicken. Drizzle with 1/2 cup prepared dressing.
  • Repeat, 1/3 lettuce, 1/2 red pepper, 1/2 poblano pepper, 1/3 corn, 1/2 tomatoes, 1/2 red onion, 1 cup cheese, 1/3 bacon and 1/2 chicken. Drizzle with 1/2 cup prepared dressing. (I recommend using Homemade Avocado Lime Ranch Dressing)

1 (1 ounce) package shredded cheese (cheddar or monterey jack)
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1 (7/8 ounce) package hidden valley ranch dressing mix

Steps:

  • Tear lettuce into a large glass bowl.
  • Layer all other vegetables in order given, (start with eggs).
  • Prepare dressing and spread over top of salad, covering completely all the way to edges to seal salad.
  • Sprinkle bacon and shredded cheese over dressing.

1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
1 cup frozen green peas (thawed)
1/2 cup chopped roma tomatoes
1/2 small red onion (thinly sliced)
6 slices bacon (fried crisp and crumbled)
Homemade croutons
1 cup buttermilk
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 clove garlic (pressed)
2 tablespoons minced shallot
1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh chives
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon whole grain Dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon hot sauce
2 ounces parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to a large glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. Stir to combine, then cover and shake vigorously to blend. Chill at least 30 minutes. Shake well before serving. (Refrigerate in covered jar up to 1 week.)
  • Place all salad ingredient in a large bowl in the order listed. Toss well with the dressing and serve immediately.

2 Tbsp (30 ml) sugar
blend together. (or, use ranch dressing)
