Newfoundland Five Star Cookie Bars image

The deliciously simple Newfoundland Five Star Cookie Bars use the most inexpensive ingredients and taste like a million bucks! Don't substitute the Aero bars if you want the real deal! This traditional confection earns a five star rating every single time!

1/4 cup butter, (melted and cooled)
2 cups graham crumb
2 cups unsweetened coconut, (fine or medium shred)
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk, (canned)
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 whole Aero chocolate bars

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line an 8x8 inch pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Add the butter, vanilla, and sweetened condensed milk to a bowl. Blend together with a hand-held mixer. You are not beating these ingredients! At this point, we are basically stirring them together well.
  • Add the coconut and graham crumbs. With the mixer on low speed, incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet.
  • Transfer this mixture to the parchment lined pan. Press the mixture flat and into the corners.
  • Bake for 20 minutes.
  • While the bars are baking, unwrap the Aero bars and break them into chunks.
  • As soon as the bars are out of the oven, sprinkle the Aero chunks evenly over the surface. Allow the bars to sit for 5 minutes.
  • Use an offset spatula to evenly spread the now soft Aero Bar chunks over the top of the bars.
  • Allow the whole thing to cool to room temperature - at least 3 hours!
  • Lift the bars out using the parchment paper. Cut into 16 squares. Store in food-safe container in the fridge. Can be frozen too!

Five Star Bars are more a confection than a cookie bar with coconut and graham crumbs suspended in chewy caramel like base, topped with chocolate.

1/4 cup melted butter
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 cups unsweetened coconut
A 10 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chocolate chips, use your preference of milk chocolate, semi sweet or dark

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Mix together the butter, graham crumbs, coconut, condensed milk, and vanilla.
  • Press into a parchment paper lined 9 x 9 pan.
  • Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until firm.
  • As soon as they come out of the oven, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the hot cookie bars.
  • Let stand for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to melt, then spread evenly over the top.
  • Allow the bars to cool to room temperature before cutting into cookie bars or squares.
  • Store in an airtight container. These cookie bars freeze well too.

Five star bars is my childhood favourite dessert, a tasty chewy filling and top with lots of chocolate. Hi welcome to our website! If you are looking for a tasty old fashion childhood recipe, this is it! This recipe is pretty much only a few simple ingredients and made usually at Christmas time, baby showers and bridal showers. Sometimes I like making these if I'm expecting company and like to pull out all the stops. ???? Chocolate chips You can use chocolate chips, dark chocolate or are bars, for the top layer for these delicious bars. Sweet condensed milk is one of the ingredients in this recipe. Add all ingredients in a large bowl and mix together, leaving out the chocolate chips they are for the final step. Mix all ingredient together. SCOOP OUT INGREDIENTS IN SQUARE PAN, lined with parchment paper. Graham crumbs
Sweetened Condensed Milk
Butter or margarine
Unsweetened fine coconut
Vanilla extract
Sea salt
Semi-sweet chocolate chips

Steps:

  • In a large bowl add graham cracker crumbs, melted butter or margarine, condensed milk, seas salt, unsweetened coconut and vanilla. Toss together until all ingredients are combined and ready to use. In a square baking pan of choice, add a piece of parchment paper to bottom and add all of the mixture. Press down in pan evenly and prepare the oven to 350ºF and after its ready put pan in oven and set the timer to 15 to 20 minutes. Depending on your oven. When baked turn oven off, then remove pan from oven and toss chocolate chips or chucks over the top, place back in the oven for 2 minutes just to soften the chocolate, then remove from oven and spread chocolate evenly over the top. " Or melt chocolate in microwave and pour over top" what works for you. Set aside and let pan cool to room temperature before cutting then into squares, or size of choice. These FIVE STAR BARS can be stored at room temperature while serving them, and kept in a container with lid for storage in fridge or freezer. Freeze them for longer storage and to keep then fresh. 1/4 cup margarine, melted
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
2 cups unsweetened coconut or 2 cups sweetened coconut
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 aero chocolate candy bars
1/4 cup cooking oil (I use Crisco)

Steps:

  • Mix the margarine, cracker crumbs, coconut, condensed milk and vanilla together; press into an ungreased 9 x 9 pan.
  • Bake in a 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 10 minutes.
  • For the icing, in a microwave proof bowl break up bars into smaller chunks, add to oil.
  • Microwave for 1 minute or longer until the chocolate melts.
  • Stir and carefully spread over squares.
  • Store squares in the refrigerator.
  • Can also be frozen.

2 c. graham cracker crumbs
2 c. shredded coconut, unsweetened
1 - 14 oz. can sweetened condensed milk
1/4 c. melted margarine
6 - 42 gram regular Aero bars (or aprox. 250 g. milk chocolate)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Mix together the first four ingredients. Press into a greased 9x13 inch pan, and bake for 10 minutes.
  • Remove the crust from the oven and set aside. Melt the chocolate and pour over the crust. Let cool and cut into squares.

Super Dark Chocolate Cookie Bars with Pieces of White Chocolate...really REALLY GOOD ! ! ! Found on the back of a C&H Golden Brown Sugar Box.

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup light brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup cocoa powder
12 ounces white chocolate chips, I only use 1/2 the bag and it's enough for me

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 and spray a 8 x 8.
  • In a large bowl beat the butter and the brown sugar til light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs and extracts and beat again til combined.
  • Sprinkle the flour over the wet ingredients.
  • Then sprinkle the soda, salt, and cocoa evenly over the flour.
  • Beat til just combined.
  • Carefully spread half the dough into the pan.
  • Sprinkle and gently press the white chocolate chip pieces into the dough.
  • Carefully spread the rest of the dough over the top.
  • Bake about 25 minutes (if using 8 x 8).
  • Let cool and cut into bars.
  • Enjoy :).
