SIXTEEN-BEAN SOUP
Count on this pleasingly seasoned, hearty soup to satisfy the whole family. "My husband and kids say brimming bowls of it are flavorful and filling," nods Laura Prokash of Algoma, Wisconsin. " I also love the fact that I can make a big pot from a handy bean mix."

16 BEAN SOUP (CROCKPOT)
This is a great recipe to start in the morning and have ready when you come home. I love the packages with 16 kinds of beans...they make the best bean soup. They don't come with a prepackaged mix or anything like it sounds--the 16 bean soup mix is just a package of 16 kinds of beans. I didn't have turkey Italian sausage so I used regular spicy Italian sausage, and I added a couple potatoes just because I love them. Recipe is posted as written. Serving size is estimated. HEARTY PORK BEAN SOUP
It's wonderful to come home to this pork bean soup dinner simmering away in a slow cooker, especially on a busy weeknight. This soup uses dried beans and is simple to throw together in the morning before work. When you get home, just add a few more ingredients, and in half an hour dinner is ready! Do not put the tomatoes in for the first 8 hours of cooking, or the beans will not become soft. -Colleen Delawder, Herndon, Virginia

MOM'S NEW ENGLAND BOILED SMOKED PORK BUTT DINNER
My Mom use to make this wonderful dish. It was my favorite next to Crepes, Pork Ribs, and Lamb Riblet Stew, Pan Fried Steak, soups and her wonderful yellow cake with the dark chocolate frosting. I haven't been able to buy Rolled Smoke Butt in years here in California. I know that cultures change in areas or over decades. But,...

Steps:
- 1. Have a large soup pan of boiling water.
- 2. Take the pork butt out of the plastic wrap and carefully remove the paper casing. Carefully place the pork butt in the boiling water and boil on low heat for about an hour.
- 3. Place the potatoes, turnips (or Rutabaga) and carrots in. When they are almost done cooking, place cabbage in. When the potatoes, turnips or rutabaga, carrots and cabbage are finished cooking take them all out of the pan. Take the pork butt out and slice it in not too thick slices. But about 1/3". Place on serving plater, place the vegetables around the pork and pour a little melted butter and chopped parsely or chopped dill on top of the vegetables. Serve hot!
- 4. Save the water to make a bean soup or chowder with.
- 5. Rose Packing Co. in Illinios sells both kinds of Smoked Pork Butt, rolled or square. I call them and spoke to Rick who is here in California. It is the exact recipe they used for making the Dainty brand my Grandmother, Mom and I used. They can have a case of it sent to their supplier here and I will pick it up next Friday. I am one happy camper!

- After simmering, add onions, tomatoes, chili powder, lemon juice, and garlic. Simmer for another 30-60 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. You may use contents of flavor packet that comes with beans in the last 2 minutes of cooking. (I don't use it).
